Sky-Watcher Evostar PRO 100 mm f/9 ED APO OTA

Due to their unobstructed textbook-like diffraction patterns and exotic optical properties, the Sky-Watcher EvoStar Pro 100 mm ED-APO produces the sharpest, highest quality imaging obtainable from any telescope optical design. These breathtakingly pristine celestial views are coveted by experienced amateur astronomers.

Observing with Sky-Watcher EvoStar PRO ED-APO 100 mm Refractor: Turning this telescope to the first quarter Moon, the Apennine Mountains snap into focus revealing a cornucopia of jagged mountain ridges, canyons, and numerous small craters in razor-sharp detail. Not far removed, reaching skyward the crater wall of Archimedes pops into view in bold relief against the smooth flatlands that transverse the distance between it and the Apennine Mountains. This is lunar observing at its best - HD style. The gas giant Jupiter displays its swirling equatorial bands in high-definition with festoons, and tonality within the bands. The great spot is clearly visible, discreetly contrasted from the surrounding Jovian landscape. Saturn's storied surface phenomenon is simply stunning. Hunt down double stars like Epsilon Lyrae, the "double-double" in Lyra. The Sky-Watcher Evostar 100ED will provide a crisp well defined image superior to even a larger reflector. Always a star-party favorite, Alberio located in the tail of Cygnus never fails to please as it is a beautiful double. Alberio appears like a gold sparkler and its companion looks blue-green. It is a perfect refractor object. Compact globular star clusters lend themselves well to a refractor. Located outside our galaxy the globular M2 will probably resolve more stars in a 4" refractor than a 6" reflector. M4, M10 and many other globular cluster can be seen well with a 100 mm refractor. M13, the fantastic globular in Hercules is a stunning sight in a 100 mm refractor. The bright central cores of prominent nebulae can be seen and the brightest stars can be resolved.

As an astrograph, the Sky-Watcher Evostar 100ED provides outstanding performance imaging an abundance of celestial wonders.

Refractors, the Ultimate Imaging Instruments: Compared to other optical designs of a given aperture size, refractors will always produce sharper images since the refractor is able to concentrate a greater amount of light into the central airy-disk and first diffraction rings. Diffraction pattern interference resulting from central obstruction such as a diagonal or secondary mirror being suspended in the optical path is completely avoided, unlike with reflectors.

Sky-Watcher EvoStar Pro ED-APO - the Ultimate Refractors: For their design class, ED-APO Sky-Watcher refractors offer the finest obtainable images. If you covet the ultimate in pristine, virtually flawless astronomical imaging, you've finally found what you're looking for! With ED apochromatic Sky-Watcher refractors, you'll experience breathtaking reliably high contrast views that have no equal of planetary and deep-space objects against pitch black skies. As an investment in advanced instrumentation for exceptional viewing or astrophotography, ED-APO Sky-Watcher refractors are the logical choice.

Virtually Eliminates Residual Chromatic Aberration: The Sky-Watcher ED-APO design assures virtual elimination of secondary, residual false color normally present in two-element achromatic lens designs using Crown and Flint glass. APO Sky-Watcher refractors utilize a second lens element made from the mineral fluorite instead of Flint glass. Fluorite, CaF2, is a halide with unique properties and a hardness of only four. It is an exotic and difficult material to fabricate into a lens. Hence the cost of manufacturing a fluorite lens is quite high compared to a Flint lens element for instance. Why fluorite? Fluorite's molecular properties have several distinct advantages. First, it has superior dispersion characteristics compared to pure silica-based glass. It functions as a high-index lens with very low dispersion. We use the term ED to signify "Extra-low Dispersion". Fluorite also corrects well for spherical aberration.

Schott Glass Used for Front Crown Element and ED 2 Lens Element: The Sky-Watcher Evostar 100ED will benefit from the inclusion of Schott glass being used for the positive front Crown element in the objective. Schott is the recognized world leader in glass utilized for precision optical lens systems, including medical instrumentation, and famous-brand camera lenses. While Schott glass is only used in selected models, all other models utilize top-quality, Grade-A glass from perhaps less famous but, nonetheless, highly respected, high-quality glass manufacturers.

Pride and Perfection in Optical Manufacturing: Every lens element is individually inspected for purity and absence of striae and other image-degrading imperfections. Every lens is pitched polished to exacting standards of optical fabrication and performance by highly skilled opticians utilizing state-of-the-art methodology and rigidly controlled optical testing procedures. The result is high-quality, diffraction-limited optics performing to the theoretical limits of their respective aperture sizes. All lenses of the Sky-Watcher Evostar 100ED are uniformly air-spaced in their cell housings.

Sky-Watcher offers one of the most extensive lines of ED-APOCHROMATIC refractors in the world: Using only the finest fabrication materials available, APO Sky-Watcher refractors are manufactured to painstakingly rigorous, exacting standards of optical and mechanical quality to insure the amateur astronomer peak performance and a great experience each and every time an ED-APO Sky-Watcher refractor is taken into the field. We know the amateur astronomer has very high expectations regarding astronomical equipment purchases. Sky-Watcher has been delivering consistent satisfaction for over a decade.

Metallic High-Transmission Lens Coatings: Each air-to-glass lens surface has exotic anti-reflection metallic coatings applied to ensure optimum light through-put. Sky-Watcher's proprietary Metallic High-Transmission Coatings (MHC) are the finest photon anti-rejection coatings in their class.

Light-Baffled Optical Systems

The objective lens cell features light baffles to eliminate excess, unfocused light. Likewise, the drawtube is baffled for supreme contrast. The interior of the optical tube is flat blackened to keep unfocused internal light reflections from arriving at the focal plane.

Precision 2" Crayford-style Focuser is Standard

Optical focus is achieved by means of a mechanically ultra-smooth, backlash-free, 2" precision Crayford-style M56x1 threaded focuser-assembly. Includes two speeds for fine and ultra-fine focusing adjustments.

Tube Materials:

Optical tube features aluminum construction and powder-coated reflective gloss black with gold fleck accents. The front and back cells are cast-aluminum and painted either white or black.

Telescope Tube Attachment Hardware:

Sky-Watcher APO optical tubes come with attachment hardware that allows them to be securely fastened to the SkyWatcher EQ5P mount. The quick-release tube rings provided with Sky-Watcher ED-APO models 80ED 100ED and 120ED are cast-aluminum, painted white.

Included Components for Selected Models:

Sky-Watcher EvoStar Pro ED-APO telescope models come with an 8x50 right angle viewfinder and bracket, 2" dielectric diagonal, a pair of 1.25" eyepieces with long eye relief (25 mm and 5 mm), a 2" to 1.25" adapter, tube ring attachment hardware for mounting to the Sky-Watcher EQ5PRO Mount (or other compatible mount), and a foam-lined aluminum carry and storage case for both the optical tube and accessories.
