Below are a few words from Televue regarding the inspiration for the sale.

As many of you know we consider NEAF our "home" show. Not because it's local, or that we're Rockland Astronomy Club members, but because the idea was first discussed between the late Allan Green (NEAF founder) and Al Nagler at Al's home. For the record, Al told Allan he was crazy, nobody would come to Rockland County. Now in its twentieth year, NEAF has grown into an international happening, bringing together "astronuts," astronauts, scientists, and the industry for learning, discovery, camaraderie and sales. We all owe a hearty "thank you" to the supremely dedicated RAC volunteers who make the show better year after year.
