Meade Stella WiFi Adapter
If you have a GoTo computerized telescope and would like to control it wirelessly from your Apple or Android smartphone or tablet, the Meade Stella WiFi Adapter is for you! Stella works with most any brand of computerized telescope (a full list is shown below), and, when paired with StellarAccess, an app available on both iTunes or Google Play, your iPhone, Android, iPad or tablet will be able to wirelessly control your telescope with just a touch! The planetarium database in StellarAccess is very interactive, and gives you the ability to not only view, but learn more about the objects you are viewing by simply tapping the screen.
The Meade Stella can create its own 802.11 Wi-Fi hotspot, and contains a web server that allows you to configure things like security, passwords, and SSID. Also, the Stella runs on its own rechargeable battery, and also comes with an AC adapter just in case you are somewhere you can plug it in. Either way, the Meade Stella doesn't pull power from your scope. It's nice to use an accessory that brings its own power and hotspot to the table!
More about the Meade Stella WiFi Adapter...
Many people get lost in the sea of stars, unsure of where to look. Now with Stella and StellaAccess, you can leave your woes behind and explore the skies with ease. See a deep-sky object on StellaAccess that you want to view? With a push of a button, your telescope will point to it. Stella gives you control of your telescope at a distance; keep the hand controller at your telescope, and find celestial objects wirelessly.
Once you join Stella’s Wi-Fi network (named “Stella” by default) from any of your qualified devices, connect to your telescope using StellaAccess and you're ready to control your telescope from your smart phone or tablet. As long as your device gets its IP address by DHCP, no additional network configuration is required.
To start your Stella experience, download and purchase StellaAccess onto your iPhone, iPad, or iPod Touch or Android device from the Google Play or Apple iTunes store. The Stella Wi-Fi adapter works seamlessly with the StellaAccess app as well as the SkySafari software. Firmware is upgradable via computer.
Stella can wirelessly enable almost any telescope with a standard USB or RS-232 serial interface. Models that have been tested and are known to work with Stella include:
- Meade LX200 Classic and GPS
- Meade LX400 ACF
- Meade LX600 / 850
- Meade LS / LT
- Meade ETX (when equipped with #497 or AudioStar Controller)
- Meade LXD 55 / 75 / 650 / 750
- Meade LX 80 / 90
- Meade Magellan I
- Meade Magellan II
Some Meade ETX models (60/80) ship with the Autostar #494 controller. To make Stella work with these scopes, you need to replace the #494 Autostar controller (which does not have a serial port) with the AudioStar (which does). Contact Meade to upgrade your controller.
