EdgeHD & ACF Telescopes
Twenty years ago, telescopes designed for scientific pursuits rather than visual astronomy were purchased by professionals, universities, and advanced amateur astronomers with pretty deep wallets! However, as digital imaging became more popular and the price of CCD sensors came down, more amateur astronomers entered the world of astro-imaging and of course, they were on the lookout for optical systems that would work together with their cameras to produce the best images. Before long, several companies released their version of a telescope that was optimized for imaging. The most popular models include Celestron's EdgeHD telescopes and Meade's ACF, which stands for Advanced Coma-Free telescopes, both of which are variations on the Schmidt-Cassegrain design.
