Atik Horizon II Monochrome CMOS Imaging Camera

The Atik Horizon II Astronomy Camera uses the 16MP Panasonic MN34230 4/3" CMOS sensor, with its 21.9mm diagonal and 3.8 micron pixel size. Different than the original Atik Horizon camera, Atik has added three different imaging modes to the Horizon II - Normal, PowerSave, and Fast.

The Horizon II will produce the highest quality images in PowerSave mode and boasts an increased frame rate in Fast mode. This flexibility makes the Horizon II very versatile, and suitable for deep sky, planetary or EAA imaging. Atik chose to keep the same sensor in the Horizon II due to its extremely low read noise and especially fast read speeds as well as its high megapixel benefits. For both those looking to upgrade their DSLR and those working with a system that would benefit from shorter exposure times, the Horizon II is an excellent option.

Atik's Horizon II camera enables amazing night sky views under near real-time conditions by pffering native compatibility with Atik Infinity live stacking software. Not only is this great for video astronomers and public outreach, but for making introductory astrophotography a breeze. Atik's on-the-fly image processing minimizes the learning curve many people experience by allowing you to be up and running quickly. This doesn't mean Atik's advanced functions have disappeared though, and you can be assured that you'll remain in control as you navigate your way through the night sky.

  • Live continuous stacking
  • Flexible histogram control, including auto-stretch functions
  • Live YouTube broadcast integration
  • Interactive session replay
  • Focus assist and monitoring tools
  • Save to FITs, PNG, JPG and TIFF formats

Horizon II cameras are fully compatible with Atik's popular Artemis Capture and Dusk imaging software that gives you full imaging control. A full ASCOM driver is also supplied to allow users the freedom to use it with their favorite astro-imaging software. When you use the Horizon II with Dusk imaging software, you can experience high speed planetary imaging with frame rates reaching 300 fps using ROI.

The Horizon camera is mechanically modeled after Atik's established 4-series cameras which are noted for their power and adaptability. A cylindrical housing that measures 74 mm in diameter and 130 mm in length, making this camera compatible with 8" or more HyperStar systems. The reason for this small increase compared to the 4-series is so a huge cooling delta of -40ºC below ambient can be housed. This helps maintain control of thermal noise, no matter where in the world you're imaging from.
