Baader CMOS Optimized Luminance "L" Filter

The obstruction of UV and IR light originating from the extreme non-visible ends of the spectrum is the main purpose of the Baader Luminance "L" LRGB Filter. This includes complete blockage of damaging thermal radiation in the infrared, as well as the prevention of blurry stars when working with digital or CCD/CMOS red-sensitive cameras. Meanwhile, all visible spectral areas between 420 nm and 685 nm are allowed to pass at a 98% transmission rate.

Baader 1.25" CMOS Optimized Luminance "L" Filter Highlights

  • CMOS optimized 1.25" Luminance "L" Bandpass Filter from Baader designed for use with between f/15 and f/1.8 focal ratio telescopes.
  • Allows up to 98% transmission of visible light (420 to 685 nm).
  • Completely cuts off any emissions from the UV or IR ends of the spectrum, including dangerous thermal radiation in the infrared.
  • Images of stars produced by digital, CMOS, and CCD cameras sensitive to red appear sharper.
  • Reflex-Blocker™ hard coatings and Life-Coat™ sealed coating edges are applied to each individual Baader LRGB filter and not to a larger glass plate from which the filters are cut out.
  • Existing standards for filter thickness are satisfied with this parfocal filter.
  • Light is kept from spilling over onto the filter’s edge by a filter-lead-side-indicator in the form of a telescope-sided black outer rim and blackened edges all the way around.
  • Compatible with classic CCD camera technology in addition to newer CMOS camera models.

More about Baader CMOS Optimized LRGB Filters

Compatible with a wide range of telescope focal ratios, from f/15 to f/1.8, this Baader LRGB Filter Set is optimized for modern CMOS camera technology. RGB color filter contrast is maximized to correspond with typical CMOS quantum efficiency and s/n ratio, while stray light and reflections are both substantially reduced to a level previously unheard-of thanks to extremely high transmission on all three RGB color channels made possible by extremely steep slopes on all RGB transmission curves. All around blackened lens edges with telescope-sided black outer rim serving as a filter-lead-side-indicator help to further minimize undesirable reflections. Finally, for automated imaging applications with most telescope systems, a balanced design enables coveted 1:1:1 exposure times.

Meanwhile, this set also includes a Luminance “L” Filter that provides 98% transmission over the entire visible spectrum while offering total obstruction of UV and IR regions, including dangerous thermal radiation, at the same time. “L” filters help imagers using digital, CCD, or CMOS cameras sensitive to red eliminate star haziness from their final results.

Since these Baader LRGB filters are not cut out of a larger plate unlike more economical filters, and are each Reflex-Blocker™ hard coated and planeoptically polished independently with Life-Coat™ sealed coating edges, their coatings are not left unprotected from the elements. This makes it impossible for moisture to seep through and prematurely age the filter. Plus, with scratch-resistant Reflex-Blocker™ hard coatings applied, they can be cleaned as often as you wish with no decrease in quality over their entire life span. Developed with special attention paid to making their lenses parfocal, the thickness of these filters matches existing standards.
