Apertura 4mm Plossl Eyepiece - 1.25"
The Apertura 4mm Plossl eyepiece produces sharp, high magnification views of the Moon and planets, and, depending on the telescope, will also work great for double stars, planetary nebulae, and other deep sky objects. Like most Plossl eyepieces, the High Point 4mm has a 52º apparent field of view. It consists of 4 lens elements that have been Fully Multi-Coated to yield good contrast. The edges of the optical elements have been blackened to reduce reflections and further increase contrast.
The High Point 4mm Plossl Eyepiece has a 1.25" chrome barrel that has been threaded to accept standard 1.25" filters, such as a neutral density filter or color filter that will help bring out features on the Moon or planets. The top of the eyepiece is fitted with a fold-down rubber eyeguard, which not only makes observing more comfortable but will keep stray light from hitting the optics and lowering contrast. Finally, the HPS 4mm Plossl has 6mm of eye relief and weighs 2.6 ounces.
Tip: Calculate the magnification this 4 mm Plossl will produce in your telescope by dividing your scope's focal length by 4. Then, to figure out the suggested maximum magnification for an observing session with normal seeing conditions for your telescope, multiply the aperture in inches by 40X to 50X. Compare the magnification this eyepiece will give you (first calculation) to the suggested max for your scope (second calculation) and make sure the number falls with that range in order to give you the sharpest views.
