The Celestron 8-24 mm Zoom Eyepiece is a premium, fully multi-coated 1.25" eyepiece with an adjustable 8 mm to 24 mm focal length. The 8-24 Zoom Eyepiece produces a wide range of magnifications, but the exact power depends on the telescope you use it in. To figure out what magnification range you'll get in your telescope, simply divide the focal length of your telescope by 8, and then by 24. For instance, if the focal length of your scope is 1000 mm and you do the math, you'll know that this zoom eyepiece will produce magnifications from 42X to 125X.

Zoom eyepieces are super easy to use and economical, but there are a few things to keep in mind with any Zoom. First, start at the lowest power (24) and focus the image. This will be your widest angle view and will allow the most light to reach your eye, so it is great for bigger, fainter objects. Now slowly zoom to reach higher magnifications. You may have to re-focus along the way. You will know you have reached maximum power for the night in question and the object you are viewing if you can no longer focus the image sharply.

Finally, while the barrel of the Celestron 8-24 Zoom Eyepiece is threaded, we do not recommend you use filters with this eyepiece. There is only a thread or two on the barrel before the zoom mechanism begins, and most likely they will not be enough to tighten the filter correctly. If you try to tighten beyond its threads, you may damage the filter or, worse, the eyepiece.
