Looking for an interactive and incredibly fun stargazing experience? Celestron has you covered with the StarSense Explorer DX 130AZ Reflector Telescope! This large Newtonian reflector coupled with the StarSense Explorer App will take your stargazing sessions to the next level. Incredible views of your favorite objects in space are well within your reach with your personal tour guide of the night sky, the Celestron StarSense Explorer App. Check out the video below for an in-depth overview with one of our knowledgeable gear experts here at High Point Scientific!

The Celestron StarSense Explorer DX 130AZ Reflector Telescope is the perfect set up for beginner or amateur astronomers who want to explore the wonders of the universe. Celestron has created an ingenious system to make finding objects in space a breeze. By coupling your smartphone to your telescope with the StarSense dock, the Celestron StarSense Explorer App knows exactly where your telescope is pointing, and gives clear and precise instructions of where to aim your telescope in order to center the desired object in your eyepiece. This genius innovation is thanks to the groundbreaking software within the Celestron StarSense Explorer App, taking professional observatory level ideas and putting them in the palm of your hand. The specially designed mirror within the StarSense dock works in conjunction with your smartphone’s camera to gather star pattern data for the StarSense Explorer app, turning your phone into a powerful astronomy tool. Also, the X-Y adjustment knobs allow the dock to hold many different smartphone sizes and oftentimes your smartphone’s case can be left in place. The process is simple. (1) Dock your smartphone, (2) launch the app, and (3) observe the night sky! Once you find your desired object to observe, move your telescope in the direction of the orange arrows displayed on your phone until the arrows disappear and a green bulls eye takes its place. Your object is now centered in the eyepiece, ready to be observed! The Celestron StarSense Explorer App also gives detailed information on what you are seeing through your eyepiece, making the experience incredibly fun and educational. The possibilities are endless when you have the StarSense Explorer App as your tour guide through the cosmos.

What Does Our Team Think?

  • "Celestron takes a simple telescope design and improves the experience 10-fold by introducing the StarSense Explorer app. I have a lot of years of experience manually searching the night sky so I do have the locations of a large majority of the Messier objects memorized, but when I want to search for something a bit more obscure, this scope is there to guide me right to it. The tripod was another feature that I was pleasantly surprised with. It’s sturdy! You do NOT want to fiddle around with a flimsy tripod, especially at high magnifications. The DX130AZ is a scope that I recommend wholeheartedly to a lot of enthusiasts looking for their first or second telescope. Having the ability to hop from object to object in mere seconds all while knowing it will be in the center of your eyepiece is nothing but miraculous. Awesome experience!"

A High Quality 5” Newtonian Reflector Packed With Features!

Paired with a high quality five inch reflector, the Celestron StarSense DX 130AZ is a dream for beginner astronomers who want to access the beauties of space. The simplicity and ease of use of the Starsense Explorer App coupled with powerful optics makes the StarSense Explorer series one of the most fun and easiest systems to use. Take a look below to delve deeper into the features of this fantastic telescope!

Powerful, Bright, Versatile
When it comes to determining the capabilities of a telescope, focal length and aperture play a big role in what is available for viewing. The larger the aperture, the more light gathering power of the telescope and the brighter objects will become. This Celestron StarSense Explorer has a focal length of 650mm and an aperture of 130mm, that’s 1.3x times more light gathering power than the LT 114AZ! At this aperture, incredible views of our universe, from our solar system to deep space objects, are easily within your reach. Celestron has included a 25mm and a 10 mm eyepiece so you can start using the telescope right out of the box. The 25 mm produces a magnification of 26X and the 10 mm eyepiece provides 65X magnification for a closer look. Using the included eyepieces, discover our nearest celestial neighbor, our Moon! Get up close and personal with the endless craters on the Moon such as Tycho and Copernicus and discover the intricate details revealed by the terminator line. Not only is our Moon remarkable in the eyepiece, Jupiter’s moons become apparent as well! Get to know Jupiter’s Galilean Moons: Ganymede, Callisto, Io, and Europa. Also, the cloud bands on Jupiter and the stunning sight of the Cassini division on Saturn are incredible through the Celestron StarSense Explorer DX 130AZ. Not only is our solar system spectacular through this reflector telescope, bright deep space objects such as galaxies, nebulae, and star clusters are extraordinary as well. Meet the magnificent Andromeda Galaxy, dive into the beauties of the Orion Nebula, and get lost counting the stars within the Hercules Cluster!

Easy to Set Up
When it comes to ease of set up, leave it to Celestron. Everything you need to get ready for a stargazing session is in the box. No adapters, tools, or external equipment necessary! This Celestron StarSense Explorer DX 130AZ can be used anywhere, as it is fully manual and no power is required to get incredible views of space. There is no complicated mount alignment required by the user and no elaborate instructions for set up. This Celestron StarSense Explorer DX 130AZ can be set up anywhere in the world and its portable design makes it perfect for camping trips or travelling to dark skies!

Easy to Use
Using the Celestron StarSense Explorer DX 130AZ is as easy as (1) dock you smartphone, (2) launch the StarSense Explorer App, and (3) observe! After docking your smartphone, the Celestron SmartSense App will walk you through a quick and easy alignment of your smartphone’s camera and your telescope's field of view. After proper alignment, it’s time to observe. It’s that simple! This intuitive app gives you clear directions on where to point your telescope for incredible views of space, and the included slow motion controls allow for easy and smooth maneuvering across the sky, helping you to hone in on your desired target. The simplicity in use makes this StarSense Explorer DX 130AZ one of the most fun and exciting set ups available!

Observatory Grade Software in the Palm of Your Hand!
By taking the concept of plate solving, a technique used by professional astronomers to determine their precise location when pointed at the sky, Celestron uses the camera of your smartphone to take photos of the sky and the StarSense Explorer App can accurately determine where the telescope is pointing. By knowing exactly where the telescope is pointed to in the night sky, it can then give you precise instructions on where to move your telescope to find your desired target. This unique method gives your manual telescope the capabilities of an observatory class system! After following a quick and simple two-step process to align your smartphone’s camera with the telescope's field of view, the Celestron StarSense Explorer App shows you the current night sky based on your location and a bulls eye to show you where your telescope is currently pointing. The next step is to observe! Find a good selection of targets from the Tonight's Best observing list, which shows the most popular objects that are currently visible from your location. Depending on the time of year, your location, and the time of night, the list might include planets like Jupiter or Saturn, galaxies, nebulae, star clusters, and more. Follow the arrows displayed on your phone and be impressed by the views within your eyepiece! The StarSense Explorer telescopes work with a wide range of smartphones, including the iPhone 6 or higher and Android 7.1.2 smartphones that were manufactured in 2016 onward and have a camera, gyro and accelerometer sensor.
