Explore Scientific AR127 Doublet Refractor
with Twilight I Alt-Azimuth Mount

The Explore Scientific AR127 is a classic 5” achromatic refractor that uses classic air-spaced doublet optics made of crown and flint glass to deliver spectacular views of the Universe to you!

The Explore AR127 telescope will produce beautiful images of objects in our Solar System, like the Moon, Saturn, Jupiter, Mars, Venus…and with the proper filtration, the Sun. However, because this telescope has a full 5” of light-gathering potential, it will do a very nice job on a multitude of “deep-sky” objects as well, including galaxies, star clusters, nebulae, and variable stars. Check out the Andromeda Galaxy, the great M-13 star cluster in Hercules, or the stunning Orion Nebula. Scan the Milky Way and get a thrill whenever your eyepiece lands on a celestial member of our amazing Universe.

The Explore Scientific Twilight I mount and tripod is the perfect companion to the AR127. You will be able to set up in moments wherever you are, and glide effortlessly from one object of interest to another. The AR127/Twilight set-up is also perfect for terrestrial use! Set it up on your deck or in your back yard and explore the local terrain. The large aperture of this telescope will give you bright images, even in lower light conditions of dusk and dawn.

This telescope package also includes some nice accessories to help get you started on your explorations of the cosmos. You’ll receive a full-sized 8 x 50 finderscope and bracket to help you zero in on your subjects. The included dual speed, 10:1 Crayford-style focuser has coarse and fine focus knobs, giving you the ability to tweak your focus until it’s perfect! A 2” diagonal, with 99% dielectric coatings, slides into the 2” focuser and locks into place. It is ready to accept the 2” eyepiece of your choice, or you can insert the included 2" to 1.25” adapter and use 1.25” eyepieces instead. Eyepieces are sold separately.

A metal cradle ring assembly is also included with the Explore AR127. The bottom of the ring assembly consists of a Vixen-style dovetail, which means your telescope will not only fit the included Twilight I mount, but any mount that accepts the standard Vixen dovetail, of which there are many. The top of the cradle ring assembly functions as a carry handle, a super smart design element that you will appreciate every time you use the AR127!

About the Explore Twilight I Mount

The Twilight I alt-azimuth mount head is made of powder-coated aluminum and there are worm gears on both axes. The adjustable angle head can be tilted forward or back at a 45° angle, or you can point it straight up for viewing at the zenith. Slow motion control cables are attached on the vertical and horizontal axes, and are easy to turn during the night, even with gloves on, due to the over-sized knurled knobs that are attached to the end of each cable. A small wrench is included with this package, and is stored in the fork arm and held in place with a magnet. If you need to make quick adjustments to your mount, it is a snap to access the wrench and then store it safely away when done. It is a small thing, but an adjustment wrench is one less tool you will need to remember to bring with you on observing sessions!

The chrome-plated steel tripod that comes standard with the Twilight I mount has adjustable legs and a wide foot print of 42 inches, which makes the tripod more stable. A spreader bar locks against the inside of the legs to secure the tripod even further, and keep vibrations to a minimum.
