QHY QHY550P ColdMOS Monochrome Polarize Camera

This QHYCCD QHY550P CMOS camera is the the special Polarize version. QHY has included an on-pixel four direction polarize image, making the camera able to capture a polarized images with only one exposure. You will not need to change the polarize filter for up to three uses. When it comes to video, the camera can generate a polarized video at 68fps.

The polarized filter is is formed during the creation of sensor at the semiconductor, meaning the formation, uniformity, mass productivity, and durability are excellent. The polarization sensor is covered with with an anti-reflection layer to avoid poor flare and ghost characteristics.

There are several different celestial objects that benefit from using a polarize camera. Many deep sky objects like nebulae emit polarized light, meaning you get a new and interesting look at these objects when you use the QHY550P. When solar imaging, there are several solar phenomenon that benefit from polarization, such as corona and sunspots.

About the Sensor

The QHY550 ColdMOS monochrome camera uses the 2/3" Sony 5 MP IMX250 Global Shutter CMOS sensor. This Pregius sensor is global shutter, so unlike the rolling shutter of most CMOS cameras, this sensor is able to utilize the low-noise CCD structure, resulting in high quality images. Even with quickly moving objects, and atmospheric agitation, the Pregius IMX250 sensor can produce images free of distortion.

Internet Interface and Frame per Second Rate

QHY has designed the QHY550 camera body with an USB3.0 interface. The CMOS monochrome camera is able to get 67fps @ 5 MP @ 8bit output. With a 12bit output, the camera can get 34fps. With the ROI function, the QHY550C can get hundreds of frames per second.

Cooling System

Detecting the tiny differences of polarized light is necessary for astronomy, life sciences, and optical lab work. In order to cool the sensor to -35C below ambient, the QHY550 comes with a 2-stage TEC cooling system. This cooling system reduces the dark current of the IMX250 sensor significantly and improves the dark signal detecting performance.

The Anti-Dew Technology

The QHY550P camera features full anti-dew technology for both the CCD sensor cover glass and the sensor chamber optical window. The QHY has included an electric heating board made for the chamber window to prevent dew formation. The sensor is kept dry using a silicon gel tube socket design to control humidity in the sensor chamber.

About the Optical Window

The AR+AR coated optical window avoids halos around bright stars. This gives full access to the red wavelength of H-alpha and SII. For RGB color balance, a separate removable 2-inch UV/IR filter is placed in a custom filter holder in front of the camera. This is done without passing the near IR wavelengths above 700nm.
