Celestron Aluminum Dew Shield with Cap for 8" SCT

The main function of this Celestron Aluminum Dew Shield and Cover Cap is to keep dew from accumulating on your C8 Schmidt-Cassegrain telescope's corrector lens. Dew shields are an essential part of any telescope system, with this particular dew shield made especially for Celestron 8” SCT optical tubes. Overnight radiative cooling of the corrector lens is minimized by using this dew shield for longer durations below the dew point and, therefore, the complete avoidance of moisture. This dew shield also blocks stray light to enhance contrast for imaging as well as observing endeavors. Expressly designed for Celestron 8” Schmidt-Cassegrains made post 2006, this dew shield is also suitable for 8” EdgeHDs and RASAs, helping to ease any anxiety over its use by assuring a secure fit.

Construction

This Aluminum Dew Shield provides a perfect, custom fit for 8” Celestron telescope tubes. The exterior of the dew shield is a rigid, aluminum cylinder that will not fold, flex, or deform. Inside, a velvet-lined interior absorbs any additional stray light and excess moisture, creating optimal contrast when viewing and imaging. Attach this dew shield to your telescope tube with the two adjustable clips to ensure a snug fit.

Celestron aluminum dew shields all come with a cover cap containing the same sturdy but lightweight construction as the dew shield. Without this cap, stray dust particles are given carte blanche to gather on your 8" SCT's corrector in the interim between uses. Additionally, this cover cap enhances imaging by facilitating quick and easy dark frame acquisition.

Another useful feature of this dew shield comes in the form of a cable management hub that can be found at the base. This is especially beneficial for those with RASA astrographs, or for those employing Fastar or Hyperstar technology with their SCT who need a way to simplify their complex cable setups. Essential cables, including those for Celestron dew heater rings, are all run from the same location in this configuration, greatly reducing cable-related stress while also safeguarding against potential stray light. Finally, top and bottom cutouts account for telescopes with attached dovetails, allowing this dew shield to fit any 8” SCT OTA no matter the configuration.
