Celestron 8" EdgeHD SCT on CGEM II GoTo EQ Mount

Celestron EdgeHD 8" OTA on the upgraded CGEM II Equatorial Mount. Celestron has given the highly regarded CGEM system an fresh, eye-catching redesign. The Celestron CGEM II 800 features a more convenient configuration, with dual-style dovetail saddle and longer lock levers, than the previous CGEM mount. Additional new features include a USB 2.0 enabled connection to a PC via the hand controller, Permanent Periodic Error Correction and a port exclusively for autoguiding.

Celestron CGEM II GoTo Equatorial Mount

Although the Celestron CGEM equatorial mount has been held in high esteem by the astronomy community for many years, Celestron recognized that it could still be improved upon. That's why they decided to give it a full interior and exterior makeover with the Celestron CGEM II 800.

When laying eyes on the Celestron CGEM II equatorial mount for the first time, one immediately notices its longer lock levers. These enable quick and easy mount alterations. Also, the CGEM II comes with a new hefty dual-style saddle that's designed to fit both CGEM (Losmandy) as well as CG-5 (Vixen) mounting dovetails. This assures that virtually and optical tube can be mounted quickly with no adapter necessary.

With a substantial weight capacity of 40 pounds, Celestron's new CGEM II equatorial mount can handle up to an EdgeHD 1100 OTA. This is a sturdy mount that can still be easily transported by being dismantled into smaller pieces for fitting into an automobile when traveling to a nearby star party site. Not including the tripod or counterweights, the CGEM II weighs in at 40 pounds. Upgraded heavy-duty tripod weighs in at 20 pounds.

The aforementioned tripod has 2" stainless steel legs with a spreader bar pushing against them, providing a solid foundation. Each leg features calibrated indicators for quick, straightforward leveling. Furthermore, the interior of the spreader contains receptacles for any additional eyepieces that need to be witin easy reach during your next observing expedition.

The Celestron CGEM II incorporates electronics that enable you to set up, operate, and maintain your mount using the features listed below. Some of the CGEM II's electronics are held over from the preceding CGEM, while some are new to the CGEM II. • Accurately polar align on any star using a built-in All-Star Polar Alignment program despite not having a view of the celestial pole. Makes polar finderscopes redundant.
  • The CGEM II tracks past the meridian, providing smooth imaging over the best section of the night sky.
  • With PPEC, or Permanent Periodic Error Correction, you only have to prepare the periodic error on your worm gears one time. After that, the system will remember your PEC settings even following shut down.
  • 5 degrees per second slewing capability enables rapid movement of your telescope for getting to your desired location in seemingly no time!
  • A USB 2.0 port is located at the bottom of the NexStar GoTo hand controller for upgrading the firmware of the controller as well as the mount, and for connecting straight to a PC via ASCOM compliant software.
  • Explore more than 40,000 night sky objects incuding stars, galaxies, nebulae, planets, star clusters, and more with just the touch of a button! An integrated celestial database allows up to 100 user-selected targets and will provide additional information on 200 of the sky's finest objects.
