The CGX-L GoTo German Equatorial Mount From Celestron!

Upgrading their principal CGX telescope mount, Celestron introduces the CGX-L! This new and improved equatorial mount features a whopping payload capacity of 75lbs, a more robust design, thicker tripod legs, and plenty more. While still containing all of the incredible aspects of the CGX, such as precise tracking and a user friendly design, this CGX-L supports a wider range of equipment for increased applications. Push the limits of amateur astrophotography with this heavy duty Celestron equatorial mount!

Just like its predecessor, this CGX-L is assembled with a belt drive system for optimized performance. Larger worm wheels have been integrated to manage the higher payload capacity and delivers smooth tracking across the night sky! A longer dovetail saddle accommodates sizable OTAs and is compatible with both CG-5/Vixen and CGE/Losmandy dovetails. While having a 20lb increase in payload than the CGX, the mount head of the CGX-L weighs only ~8lbs heavier! Nicely positioned handles make carrying and setting up the CGX-L a breeze, and internal cabling help prevent dreaded cable snags. The included NexStar+ hand controller makes it easy to choose your target, star align, and even polar align! With characteristics like these, the CGX-L is a must have for those wanting to take their astronomy journey to the next level!

Ergonomically Designed

Celestron has furnished this CGX-L with useful additions to maximize user experience! With the mount head coming in at ~53lbs, two befitting handles can be found at the base of the mount as well as below the dovetail saddle for easy, comfortable transport. This 270mm dovetail saddle makes it easy to balance heavy OTAs and features large, easy to grip tightening knobs to secure your equipment into place. While polar aligning, the robust latitude adjustment offers smooth, seamless maneuvering even under heavy loads. Celestron has redesigned the azimuth adjustment with low-friction Teflon bearings to further enhance your polar alignment experience! Cable management is made easy with the internal cabling system, and strategically placed ports to minimize loose cords that can get caught while tracking. Also included is the ability to focus the center of gravity over the tripod with an adjustable EQ head position. This further enhances stability as well as optimizes the increased 3°-65° latitude range.

A High Caliber, Substantial Payload Telescope Mount

This feature-packed equatorial mount is a must have for those looking to upgrade their astronomy experience. With qualities such as high precision internal mechanics, the ability to pack on heavy, premier equipment, and a user friendly design, its easy to see why this the CGX-L is a prime option for backyard and remote observers. Read more about this 75lb payload workhorse below!

75lb Payload, High Precision Tracking
Celestron has fitted this CGX-L equatorial mount with 144mm diameter, spring loaded worm wheels in both axes. This design maximizes gear mesh for even and consistent tracking and GoTo slews! A belt and pulley system significantly reduces backlash and offers smooth motor operation even under full load capacities. These belts were crafted with durability in mind, and will not wear out nor wither with extensive use. Supporting an incredible 75 payload, a larger counterweight shaft has been integrated for the addition of multiple 22lb counterweights from Celestron. Easily set a Celestron EdgeHD 14 OTA, Celestron 11" RASA Telescope OTA, and plenty more high focal length telescopes atop this mount. This Celestron CGX also features a lower profile and wider tripod stance for improved stability.

Included NexStar+ Hand Controller
Coming standard with a NexStar+ hand controller, star align, polar align, perform GoTo slews, and manage tracking rates of your Celestron CGX-L. This hand controller features a red backlit Liquid Crystal Display (LCD) screen to preserve your night vision. With over 40,000 objects within its database, explore the universe with your Celestron CGX-L! You even have to option to add up to 100 user-defined programmable objects within this hand controller. Nineteen large LED backlit buttons make it effortless to navigate through the controls, and the 2 line x 18 character display is easy to read. Furnished with a USB 2.0 port, connect it directly to your computer to control this mount with software of your choice. Please note: Celestron does not include a USB cable with their hand controller. We recommend the Apertura USB 2.0 Cable for Celestron NexStar+ Hand Controllers.

Extensive Software Compatibility
This CGX-L comes complete with the Celestron PWI software for optimized control of your equatorial mount. Developed in conjunction with PlaneWave Instruments, multi-point modeling is fitted within this application for on-point GoTo slews. You also have the option to utilize your favorite ASCOM compatible software, such as NINA, Astro Photography Tool, and plenty more. Wanting to use your smartphone or tablet to operate this CGX-L? Attach the Sky Portal WiFi Module (not included) for connection through the Celestron SkyPortal App!

Additional Ports and a Secure Power Connection
Allowing the option to add external accessories is the 4 AUX ports fitted onto this CGX-L mount. Two autoguider ports can be found on the mount head as well. To better assist with cable management, two of these AUX ports and one of these autoguiding ports move with the dovetail saddle as it tracks the sky. This further reduces the possibility of cable snags! The power port on this CGX-L remains stationary during mount slewing, and the 12V DC power cord features a threaded barrel connector to prevent accidental disconnection. On the included NexStar+ hand controller, hook up your computer through the USB 2.0 port for software control of this mount.

Various Polar Alignment Methods
As this CGX-L mount doesn’t include a polar scope due to its internal cabling, polar alignment can be achieved numerous different ways. Within the Celestron NexStar+ hand controller is a feature called All Star Polar Alignment. This innovation allows you to polar align your mount without the need of a clear view of the celestial poles! This system only requires a few bright stars to assist you in polar aligning to a high degree of accuracy. This is a great option for those who have obstructed views of the north or south celestial poles. Another way to polar align your CGX-L is through your favorite software via USB connection to your computer. Fully ASCOM compatible, this Celestron mount can be used with a plethora of programs. For those who are wanting a more traditional method of polar alignment with a polar scope, Celestron offers an external Polar Polar Axis Finderscope for CGX and CGX-L Mounts (not included). This accessory has an internal reticle map for easy and seamless polar alignment!

A Rock-Steady Tripod
A heavy duty equatorial mount requires a rigid support system in place to optimize its performance. This is why Celestron has supplied this CGX-L with a strong, 46.2lb rigid tripod with 2.75” stainless steel legs! This robust tripod is equipped with not one but two spreader bars for enhanced stability. One of these spreader bars doubles as an accessory tray that holds three 1.25” eyepieces, two 2” eyepieces, your smartphone, and more! A wider stance helps keep the center of gravity fixed and the height can be adjusted from 35.75” to 52.75”.

Perfect for Backyard or Remote Observatories
Numerous aspects of this mount make it optimal for remote observing, whether that be from your backyard or an observatory far away! Limit and home sensors as well as a last resort mechanical hard stop work together to prevent accidental equipment damage. This helps give you peace of mind knowing your equipment is protected! The fixed power connection with a threaded barrel defends against power detachment during mount movement, and internal cabling keeps your cords and wires safe against cable snags. Ingenious port placements further help with cable management for trouble-free slewing and tracking. This 120lb system is comprised of a mount head weight of almost 53lbs, tripod weight of 46lbs, and a 22lb counterweight, making it ideal for stationary set ups. Built for heavy, high-end OTAs and imaging equipment, this 75lb payload capacity expands the possibilities for amateur astrophotographers. With features like these, the CGX-L Computerized Equatorial Mount earns our High Point Scientific category badges of Remote Observatory Grade and Backyard Observing!
