  • This 8" aperture reflector optical tube with Atlas equatorial mount featuring thoroughly robust construction is an excellent choice for both observing and imaging deep space objects.
  • Reflector telescope with 8" (203 mm) diameter precision designed parabolic primary mirror and 1000 mm focal length (f/4.9) to enable fun and interest stargazing experiences year after year.
  • Automatically point to any of the over 42,000 celestial objects in the Atlas EQ-G equatorial mount and GoTo hand controller database.
  • A 12V DC power source like the Orion Dynamo or AC-to-DC adapter is required for operation.
  • Package includes a 2" Crayford-style focuser with 1.25" adapter, 8x40 finder, 25 mm Sirius Plossl eyepiece, Starry Night software download card, and more!

For those amateur astronomers interested in imaging as well as observing, a versatile instrument such as the Orion Atlas 8" EQ-G Computerized GoTo Reflector is a necessity. This 8" aperture reflector with precision parabolic mirror optics and robust GoTo equatorial mount combination is ideal for both deep space observations and astrophotography.

An 8" (203 mm) diameter parabolic primary mirror center-marked for more straightforward and accurate collimation with 1000 mm focal length (f/4.9) lies at the heart of this Orion Atlas EQ-G reflector telescope system. Coupling an 8" wide aperture with fast f/4.9 optics gives this instrument the performance versatility needed for visually examining both the planets of our solar system and remote galaxies, as well as for deep space CCD astro-imaging. The Orion Atlas EQ-G GoTo equatorial mount included with this telescope features backlash compensation in both axes as well as programmable periodic error correction (PEC) for the precision necessary for either manual guiding or autoguiding using the integrated ST-4 autoguider port that is built conveniently into the mount's drive panel.

Speaking of the mount, the bulky Orion Atlas EQ-G GoTo equatorial mount and tripod provides incredibly stable support and maximum usage comfort due to solid construction and height-adjustable 2" wide stainless steel legs. Internal DC stepper motors offer nine slew rates ranging from 2x to 800x sidereal, and three tracking rates: sidereal, lunar, and solar. Users will enjoy the ability to slew from one object to another at a rate of up to 3.4º per second.

With the Atlas EQ-G GoTo telescope mount, any of more than 42,000 celestial objects can be visited with the simple push of a few buttons. The hand controller features a two-line, backlit LCD screen and keypad illuminated in red with intuitive menu navigation that takes almost no time to learn. The aforementioned 42,000+ computerized object database includes the complete Messier, NGC, and IC catalogs of nebulae, star clusters, and galaxies, as well as planets, 100 named stars, and 25 user-selected objects!

Included with the Orion Atlas 8" EQ-G GoTo Reflector Telescope is a host of great accessories. An 8x40 achromatic finder allows you to locate objects to explore while precisely aiming this telescope. For instant visual use straight out of the box, a high quality 25 mm Sirius Plossl eyepiece is provided. This 1.25" eyepiece generates 40x power magnification when used with the 8" Atlas, optimally suited for a comprehensive sweep of the night sky. The 8" Atlas EQ-G Newtonian tube assembly also features a deluxe 2" Crayford-style focuser with 1.25" adapter for the use of both 2" and 1.25" eyepieces and accessories. Easy and accurate optical alignment, or collimation, is enabled via a combination of large knurled collimation knobs on the high-ventilation rear cell and a center mark on the primary mirror. Orion has even included a simple collimation cap to further help you align your telescope's optics.

The Atlas EQ-G mount requires an external 12-volt DC power supply or an AC-to-DC adapter to run off of household 110-volt AC, all sold separately.
