Starlight Xpress Trius SX-56 Full-Frame CCD Camera

The Trius SX-56 large area Full-Frame CCD Camera uses the popular KAF-16803 sensor. This small camera has big rewards when it comes to astrophotographers who want crisp images from a high quality CCD camera. The square format of the array for the sensor is 36.8 x 38.8mm, 9µm square pixels. The full frame chip uses a mechanical shutter, and Starlight Xpress makes sure that astrophotographers get the best shutter action by developing a custom "roller blind" assembly using mini stepper motors. This assembly provides great uniform shutter action. The window, itself, is easy to clean with an air duster or soft cloth.

KAF-16803 Sensor

The popular KAF-16803 sensor is a redesigned version of the KAF-16801 image sensor. It is made with high performance digital radiography applications in mind. It also has enhanced quantum efficiency for improved DQE, particularly with higher spatial frequencies. It also has lower noise that improves the contrast in high density areas and anti-blooming protection, which prevents the image from bleeding from over exposure.

Features

  • This camera is equipped with a multi-coated synthetic sapphire input window. The thermal conductivity of the sapphire eliminates the need for a window heater. It does this by conductiing waste heat from the camera body and dispersing it across the entire window surface. This makes the possibility of dew accumulating on the window very unlikely, even with the maximum CCD cooling.

  • The stepper driven roller blind provides extremely uniform illumination of the sensor, even at 0.1 seconds exposure time. It is designed for long-term use, but is easy to remove and replace, if necessary.

  • The Trius SX-56's CCD chamber is compact and dry argon filled, sealed by an O ring.

  • With a built-in LED flood illuminator for RBI elimination, the camera's design will make sure that none of the trapped electrons from previous images will corrupt the next batch of images.

  • There is a fast image download time as well. This download time is approximately 6.5 seconds for a full 16.7 megapixel image.

  • The stage three Peltier cooler gives better than -45C below ambient. The CCD camera also has an efficient temperature control to keep the power consumption of the cooling system less than 2 amps at 12v DC.

  • This SX Camera is equipped with the standard, built-in 'Trius' 3 port USB 2 hub
