Zhumell 1.25" Eyepiece and Filter Kit - ZHUL007-1

Zhumell 1.25" Eyepiece & Filter Kit

Take full advantage of your telescope with this 13-piece Zhumell 1.25" Eyepiece and Filter Kit! This kit comes complete with four 1.25" plossl eyepieces, a 2x Barlow lens, seven 1.25" planetary and lunar filters, and an aluminum carrying case lined with custom cut foam.

Four 1.25" Plossl Eyepieces

Using the high power eyepieces included in this kit in conjunction with your telescope will allow objects such as the Moon and planets, as well as deep sky objects like galaxies, star clusters, and nebulae to be viewed in much greater detail. For this, the 4 mm, 6 mm, and 12.5 mm Plossl models will suffice. For wide field views of more sizable objects, this kit also comes with a lower magnification 32 mm Plossl eyepiece.

2x Barlow Lens

This Zhumell 1.25" accessory kit includes an easy-to-use 2x Barlow lens will soon become one of your most favored viewing enhancements. To use, simply insert the 2x Barlow into your telescope's focuser or diagonal before inserting the eyepiece of your choice into the Barlow. This Barlow doubles the power of any eyepiece. Eyepieces that normally provide 100x magnification will provide 200x magnification when used in conjunction with this Barlow. Compatible with any 1.25" barrel eyepiece, this 2x Barlow works with the four eyepieces in this kit to give users eight different magnification options! It's equivalent to having eight separate eyepieces, but for a much lower cost. Keep in mind, however, that it is possible to have excessive magnification. Combining an already high powered eyepiece with a Barlow may result in out of focus views because your telescope isn't able to handle that much magnification at that particular location on that particular night. A different location with improved seeing conditons may produce better results with that eyepiece/barlow combination. It's all contingent upon the seeing conditions at any given place and time.

Color Planetary Filters

Color planetary filters are required in order to draw out subtle details in planets not normally visible. This Zhumell 1.25" accessory kit includes five 1.25" color filters for this purpose. Any of these 1.25" filters will fit any of the included 1.25" eyepieces, as well as the 2x Barlow lens. Comparable to using a filter on a camera lens with the difference being that in astronomy, we are attempting to view sights like the equatorial bands on Jupiter or the Martian ice caps instead of something terrestrial. The following is a list of filters included with this kit along with some information on which planets they are most optimal for:

#12 Yellow: Yellow filters are best suited for observing Mars as they highlight the polar ice caps, enhance blue clouds in the atmosphere, boost contrast, and illuminate desert areas. In addition, this yellow filter will enhance Jupiter and Saturn's red and orange characteristics while suppressing the blue festoons near Jupiter's equator.

#21 Orange: Ideal for enhancing contrast between light and dark areas, penetrating clouds, and helping to expose Martian dust storms, orange filters also sharpen contrast on Jupiter, bringing out the Great Red Spot.

#23A Light Red: For daytime viewing of Mercury and Venus, light red filters work best to highlight the contrast between two inner planets and the blue sky. When used in telescopes with large apertures, light red filters are great for sharpening edges and increasing contrast on Mars, sharpening belt contrast on Jupiter, and drawing out Saturn surface detail. Due to a significant light transmission decrease, this filter is not recommended for use with less than 6" aperture telescopes.

#56 Light Green: Light green filters are excellent for viewing Martian features like frost patches, surface fogs, and polar projections, as well as Saturn's rings and Jupiter's belts. They also make great all-around filters for observing the Moon.

#82A Light Blue: Similar to the #80A blue filter in function, this light blue filter helps maintain overall image brightness while also enhancing structure detail in galaxies.

Increase Contrast or Cut Glare

This Zhumell accessory kit also comes with a 1.25" polarizing filter that screws onto the barrel of any 1.25" eyepiece, just as the planetary filters do. Users will find this filter to be highly adaptable. It can be used to reduce glare when viewing the Moon, as well as increase contrast for many astronomical objects. For those who use telescopes suited for terrestrial purposes, this polarizing filter will diminish glare over objects that gleam in the Sun like water. By attaching this polarizing filter to an eyepiece, Barlow, or diagonal, users will experience a contrast enhancement and more comfortable daytime viewing on bright, sunny days.

The final filter included with this set is a Moon filter. For many first time lunar observers, the brightness of the Moon when viewed through a telescope is surprising. In fact the Full Moon is so bright that it can be an undesirable sight through an unshielded eyepiece. This is where a Moon filter can be tremendously beneficial. Used in conjunction with any 1.25" eyepiece, this filter will reduce light transmission and cut glare while maintaining the Moon's natural color.
