EdgeHD & ACF Telescopes

The Celestron EdgeHD series of telescopes are designed with an optimized aplanatic flat-field optical system, and the Meade ACF is based on the popular Ritchey-Chretien design but includes, among other things, a corrector plate. Both telescope manufacturers advertise a much flatter field than that of a standard Schmidt-Cassegrain; a real boon to amateur astronomers who want to produce beautiful images of celestial objects. A flattened field yields star images that have a pleasingly round shape all the way to the edge of the field of view, whether you are using a large imaging sensor or are looking through a super wide-angle eyepiece.
