Celestron Omni XLT 150 Reflector Telescope Bundle

with Dual Axis Motor Drive & Polar Finder!

  • Check out this classic telescope bundle! High Point started with the Celestron Omni XLT 150 telescope, which is a classic 6” Newtonian German Equatorial reflector, and added the Celestron CG-4 Dual-Axis Drive, which will allow the Omni mount to accurately & automatically track the stars as they move through the sky. We rounded out this bundle with the addition of a Celestron Polar Axis Finder to make it easy to align your Omni XLT 150 with the North Celestial Pole so the telescope can track super accurately.
  • The Celestron Omni XLT 150 telescope offers plenty of light-gathering for peering into the deep reaches of space. Newtonians offer amateur astronomers an easy to use and maintain design that rarely suffers from dew and other effects of high humidity. The tube assembly can be removed from the mount quickly and easily for transport and storage.
  • The Omni CG-4 equatorial mount comes standard with oversized slow motion control knobs to manually move the mount to the desired position. A total of 13 pounds of counterweights come with the telescope to help balance the weight of the tube assembly, and extra weights can be positioned on the shaft if you decide to add extra components to the system, such as a camera.
  • A stainless steel tripod with metal castings is also provided with the Omni XLT 150 Reflector. This stable base has adjustable legs and an accessory tray/spreader bar that keeps the legs evenly separated and provides extra stability.
  • The Celestron Dual-Axis Drive comes with two motors, one for each axis, a battery pack, and a hand controller so that you can push a button to move the telescope to the North, South, East, or West.
  • A polar axis finder is considered one of the most important accessories for any equatorial mount. To use, simply insert the polar finder into the polar axis of the Omni XLT mount, look through it, and make the proper adjustments. A reticle inside the finder is etched with a few recognizable star patterns to help you align your telescope, whether you are observing in the Northern or Southern Hemisphere.

More About the Celestron Omni XLT 150 Reflector Telescope

Millions of astronomically curious people have enjoyed countless hours through the eyepiece of a classic 6” Newtonian Reflector. As you may have guessed by the name, the Newtonian design has been around for over 300 years, and isn’t much different from the original Issac Newton designed in 1668. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it! Today’s Newtonians would blow Issac away, and the Celestron Omni XLT 150 is no exception. First of all, it uses a finely crafted 6” mirror to do the job of light collection, and that mirror is coated with Celestron’s highly acclaimed StarBright XLT coatings for superior light transmission. With 150 mm, or 6” of aperture, the user of this Omni XLT telescope will be able to achieve bright views of objects in our Solar System, like Jupiter, Saturn, Mars, Venus, Mercury, or the Moon, as well as deep-space objects such as the Andromeda Galaxy or the Orion Nebula. Go deeper into space with the Celestron Omni XLT 150, back millions of light years, and explore hundreds of galaxies, star clusters, nebulae, and double stars, or turn your scope to celestial events like the latest comet or eclipse.

The 2” Crayford-style focuser accepts a huge array of standard astronomical accessories like eyepieces, camera adapters, and more. Adjustments to focus are smooth and effortless, and the eyepiece or other accessory locks in snugly by means of a metal thumbscrew. A 6X30 finderscope is included as standard equipment on the Celestron Omni XLT 150 telescope. The white finder bracket (which matches other metal castings on this telescope) elevates the 6 X 30 finder far enough above the Omni 6" OTA to make it easy to look through. Once the finder is aligned to the OTA, all you have to do is find an object in the finderscope, and it will also appear in the field of view of your eyepiece! Finally, the telescope optical tube assembly is held in place on the equatorial mount with two “cradle” rings. These mounting rings open and close easily and lock snugly into place with oversized knurled knobs. This makes it easy to remove the tube from the mount for transport or storage.

Celestron’s Sturdy CG-4 Omni Equatorial Mount

The Celestron Omni equatorial mount is very sturdy and has a weight capacity of approximately 20 pounds. Since the 150 mm OTA weighs about 12 pounds, this gives the user a lot of wiggle room when it comes to the addition of extra accessories such as cameras and guide scopes. The Omni CG-4 mount comes with setting circles to help you find objects, and slow motion control knobs to let you manually track objects as they move through the sky due to the rotation of the Earth. Ball bearings in both axis (right ascension and declination) contribute to the smoothness and accuracy of movements, whether you add the optional dual-axis drive (included in this High Point bundle) or decide to track manually. All of the knobs on the Omni mount are oversized and obvious. This seems like a small thing until you are outside in the dark, and its cold, and you are wearing gloves! Ultimately, you would like to make adjustments to your mount with requiring that you remove those gloves! The steel counterweight shaft has plenty of room to accept extra counterweights should you require them. Two counterweights (a 7 lb. and a 4 lb.) come with this package. They are anodized white to match the Omni mount, the cradle rings, the finderscope bracket, and the metal end caps. Couple that with a night sky blue tube, and you have one very smart-looking telescope!

The tripod is a very important component in any telescope set-up. A wobbly tripod will cause a wobbly image, no matter how awesome your telescope or mount are! The Celestron Omni tripod is a heavy-duty model featuring 1.75” diameter stainless steel legs. It is preassembled and height adjustable, and comes with a bubble level installed on the tripod head. A metal spreader bar, which provides extra stability, doubles as an accessory tray. Curious to know how to calculate your telescope's magnification? See how in the comprehensive video below!

More About the Celestron Omni Dual Axis Drive

Add tracking and tracking correction capabilities to the Celestron Omni CG-4 equatorial mount. The right ascension motor drive allows the telescope to track a star’s movement through the night sky, and the addition of a declination motor gives you the ability to make adjustments in all four directions with the included drive corrector hand controller.

With the Celestron dual-axis drive system mounted on a properly polar-aligned Omni XLT 150, the user can do visual observations or sketches without objects constantly drifting out of the field if view. Astrophotography is also possible when you upgrade the Omni mount with a dual-axis drive system. The Celestron dual-axis motor drive system is powered by four D-cell batteries in a self-contained battery pack. The drive can be used in either the Northern or Southern Hemisphere. To change hemispheres (reverse the motor’s direction), simply flip the “N/Off/S” switch on the drive corrector hand controller. The drive corrector hand controller can also be used to move the Omni XLT 150 at different speeds. This is achieved by choosing the desired speed on a switch marked “2x/4x/8x.” Twice the sidereal rate, or 2x, is used for guiding on a star when doing astrophotography. The 4x speed is used to center objects in the eyepiece, and the 8x speed can be used for centering objects in the finderscope as well as the eyepiece.

More About the Celestron CG-4 Polar Finder

Get some help polar aligning your Celestron Omni XLT Mount with the addition of the included Polar Axis Finder. Install the finder into the polar finder port, located at the rear of the mount, and focus the eyepiece until the reticle is sharp.

The reticle of the Polar Finder is etched with a few recognizable star patterns to help you align your telescope in both the Northern or Southern hemisphere. If you are using your telescope in the Southern Hemisphere, you will see the four major stars of Octans, and can use them to align. In the Northern Hemisphere, you will recognize the Big Dipper asterism on the reticle, as well as the familiar “W” of Cassiopeia. Use the Big Dipper to guide you in the spring and summer months, and Cassiopeia during the fall and winter. The North Star, Polaris, is also designated on the reticle, as is the NCP, or North Celestial Pole. Once you choose which star pattern to use, align your telescope so that the stars line up with the positions shown on the reticle, then move the telescope’s azimuth and altitude adjustment controls to place Polaris in the crosshairs.
