High Point Scientific has hand-picked this selection of reflecting telescopes to suit a broad range of viewing purposes. Enjoy crisp, clear views of distant celestial objects, such as galaxies, star clusters, comets, and more. Many reflecting telescopes are great for viewing the Moon or nearby planets, such as Mars, Jupiter, or Saturn. The reflecting telescope’s simplistic design makes it easy to build and often very affordable. The objective mirror has a parabolic shape to easily capture light rays and direct them to your eyepiece. Because all wavelengths reflect off the mirror the same way, reflecting telescopes virtually eliminates chromatic aberration.

Many reflecting telescopes also feature a secondary mirror, such as Ritchey–Chrétiens, Dobsonians, Dall-Kirkhams, and many other styles. The secondary mirror can be curved, like a Cassegrain or flat, like a Newtonian, depending on the reflecting telescope design. Keep in mind that the secondary mirror may produce some diffraction because of where it redirects light.

You will find these telescopes typically mounted on either an Equatorial or an Altazimuth mount. The versatility and magnification potential for reflecting telescopes make them ideal for astro-imaging. Be sure to check out some of our impressive reflecting telescopes for sale!

There are several characteristics you will want to pay attention to when purchasing a telescope. The focal length is integral to determining how far you will be able to see out of your telescope. It also helps determine your telescope’s focal ratio and field of view. Aperture is important to look at also because it determines how much light your OTA will capture. All these factors together make each telescope unique, each providing a different viewing experience. Looking at telescope spec can be daunting, that is why we at High Point are here to help you make the best selection based on your aspirations and budget. Need help getting started?
