Sky-Watcher Evostar PRO 80 mm f/7.5 ED APO OTA

ED APO Sky-Watcher refractor telescopes are able to generate sharp images superior in quality to those achievable through any telescope optical design due to their nearly flawless unobstructed diffraction patterns and novel optical properties. The resulting spectacular celestial views are the kind of pristine views envied by experienced amateur astronomers.

Observing with EvoStar PRO 80ED APO Refractor: For an amateur astronomer, nothing offers more imaging potential than Sky-Watcher Evostar 80ED APO refractor under clear skies with a stable atmosphere. This moderately wide-field telescope covers large swaths of the sky in a single view for optimal wide-field astronomical observation of eye-catching nebulae, star clusters, and galaxies from any location with dark skies. It can also be used as an astrograph for sky photography. When used as a spotting scope or telephoto lens for terrestrial viewing, the Sky-Watcher Evostar 80ED provides absolutely superb performance with ultra high contrast to highlight even the minutest of details when examined under good seeing conditions. With a petite footprint, the Sky-Watcher Evostar 80ED Pro is a light, compact instrument that fits into a small space while providing easy portability. Structural detail of gas giants such as Jupiter and Saturn becomes evident at approximately 50 power. Moon craters are also displayed in impressive detail along the lunar terminator.

As an astrograph, the Sky-Watcher Evostar 80ED delivers superb performance imaging a wide spectrum of astronomical phenomenon.

Refractors, the Ultimate Imaging Instruments: Compared to other optical designs of a given aperture size, refractors will always produce sharper images since the refractor is able to concentrate a greater amount of light into the central airy-disk and first diffraction rings. Diffraction pattern interference resulting from central obstruction such as a diagonal or secondary mirror being suspended in the optical path is completely avoided, unlike with reflectors.

Sky-Watcher EvoStar Pro ED APO - the Ultimate Refractor: Sky-Watcher EvoStar Pro ED-APO refractors provide the finest images obtainable in their design class. If you are on a quest for the ultimate in pristine, near textbook-perfect astronomical imaging, look no further!ED apochromatic Sky-Watcher refractor telescopes deliver dramatic coal-back skies and faithful, contrast-rich views of planetary and deep-space phenomenon that are second to none. ED-APO Sky-Watcher refractor telescopes are the logical choice as an investment in advanced instrumentation for exceptional viewing or photography.

Virtually Eliminates Residual Chromatic Aberration: The Sky-Watcher ED-APO design assures virtual elimination of secondary, residual false color normally present in two-element achromatic lens designs using Crown and Flint glass. APO Sky-Watcher refractor telescopes utilize a second lens element made from the mineral fluorite instead of Flint glass. Fluorite, CaF2, is a halide with unique properties and a hardness of only four. It is an exotic and difficult material to fabricate into a lens. Hence the cost of manufacturing a fluorite lens is quite high compared to a Flint lens element for instance. Why fluorite? Fluorite's molecular properties have several distinct advantages. First, it has superior dispersion characteristics compared to pure silica-based glass. It functions as a high-index lens with very low dispersion. We use the term ED to signify "Extra-low Dispersion". Fluorite also corrects well for spherical aberration.

Schott Glass Used for Front Crown Element and ED 2 Lens Element: The P80ED will benefit from the inclusion of Schott glass being used for the positive front Crown element in the objective. Schott is the recognized world leader in glass utilized for precision optical lens systems, including medical instrumentation, and famous-brand camera lenses. While Schott glass is only used in selected models, all other models utilize top-quality, Grade-A glass from perhaps less famous but, nonetheless, highly respected, high-quality glass manufacturers.

Pride and Perfection in Optical Manufacturing: To ensure purity and absence of striae and other image corrupting deficiencies, all lens elements are separately inspected. Highly skilled opticians use advanced techniques and tightly controlled optical testing procedures to pitch polish each lens to exacting standards of optical fabrication and performance. This enables high quality, diffraction-limited optics that perform to the theoretical confines of their specific aperture sizes. All lenses are evenly air-spaced in their cell housings.

Sky-Watcher offers one of the most extensive lines of ED-APOCHROMATIC refractors in the world: Using only the finest fabrication materials available, APO Sky-Watcher refractor telescopes are manufactured to painstakingly rigorous, exacting standards of optical and mechanical quality to insure the amateur astronomer peak performance and a great experience each and every time an ED-APO Sky-Watcher refractor telescope is taken into the field. We know the amateur astronomer has very high expectations regarding astronomical equipment purchases. Sky-Watcher has been delivering consistent satisfaction for over a decade.

Metallic High-Transmission Lens Coatings: Each air-to-glass lens surface has exotic anti-reflection metallic coatings applied to ensure optimum light through-put. Sky-Watcher's proprietary Metallic High-Transmission Coatings (MHC) are the finest photon anti-rejection coatings in their class.

Light-Baffled Optical Systems

The objective lens cell is light-baffled to reject stray, unfocused light, while the draw tube is similarly baffled to assure optimal contrast. The optical tube interior is flat blackened to help prevent unfocused internal light reflections from reaching the focal plane.

Precision 2" Crayford-style Focuser is Standard

Optical focus is achieved by means of a mechanically ultra-smooth, backlash-free, precision 2" Crayford-style focuser-assembly. This M56x1 threaded focuser offers two speeds for both fine and ultra-fine focusing adjustments.

Tube Materials:

Optical tube features aluminum construction and powder-coated reflective gloss black with gold fleck accents. The front and back cells are cast-aluminum and painted either white or black.

Telescope Tube Attachment Hardware:

Sky-Watcher APO optical tubes come with attachment hardware that allows them to be securely fastened to the SkyWatcher EQ5P mount. The quick-release tube rings provided with Sky-Watcher ED-APO models 80ED 100ED and 120ED are cast-aluminum, painted white.

Included Components for Selected Models:

Sky-Watcher EvoStar Pro ED-APO telescope models come with an 8x50 right angle viewfinder and bracket, 2" dielectric diagonal with 1.25" adapter, a pair of 1.25" eyepieces with long eye relief (25 mm and 5 mm), tube ring attachment hardware for mounting to the Sky-Watcher EQ5PRO Mount (or other compatible mount), and a foam-lined aluminum carry and storage case for both the optical tube and accessories.
