Lunt LS100MT 100 mm H-Alpha Solar Telescope

Part of the Lunt Solar Systems line of Modular Telescopes, this LS100MT H-Alpha Solar Telescope with professional-grade optics delivers the best resolution of any telescope in its class. Suitable for both daytime and nighttime use, the LS100MT offers a multitude of solar, night sky, and terrestrial observing methods. With an aperture measuring 100 mm, the LS100MT is large enough to elicit excitement from users, regardless of present configuration, while also remaining conveniently transportable. Prominences, filaments, surface granulation, and other solar marvels are greatly enhanced when viewed through this refractor. The superior quality performance you've come to expect from a Lunt telescope is there once again with the LS100MT. Furthermore, the LS100MT yields the best possible views by allowing extremely subtle tuning modifications via its Doppler true tuning system.

The only essential task you need to complete in order to enable night sky observing with the Lunt LS100MT is a simple removal of the Hydrogen Alpha module. This will allow you to use the FPL53 glass-coated ED APO lens on this refractor to probe our galaxy even after the Sun has set. Additionally, as long as you have the right filter (not included), both White Light and Calcium K viewing can be accomplished with the LS100MT. Because of the LS100MT’s broad spectrum of possible uses and configurations, there is little reason to believe it’ll go unused for very long.

Converting easily from Hydrogen-Alpha and Terrestial viewing to Night Sky viewing, and also to White Light or Calcium K viewing with the appropriate separately available filters, the Lunt LS100MT is proven to be remarkably adaptable. For those who own multiple telescopes, the LS100MT will, in all likelihood, be one of your most frequently used observing instruments. While the LS100MT is capable of delivering an unforgettable Hydrogen Alpha solar viewing experience with the base single stack arrangement, to get the Sun's surface features to practically pop out at you as if they're being viewed in 3-D, you'll want to think about getting the optional double stack module.

True Doppler Tuning

True Doppler Tuning primarily allows for a shift into and away from the user, adding a 3-D like component to the viewing experience. Although the effect this has on prominences is minimal due to their location at the edge of the disk, it does have an impact on filaments and similarly active regions on the surface. Additionally, while looking at a filament at the center of the Sun, the user has the ability to Doppler shift from the base of the filament to the tip, thus following the filament through its structure toward you and away from you. This enhanced visual and imaging capability benefits the observer while providing a useful research tool for the avid hobbyist. Lastly, the LS100MT’s pressure tuning system allows for more precise tuning of desired features by an order of magnitude.

Solar Blocking Filter Options

Please Note - You must have a Lunt blocking filter to view the Sun safely with this OTA! Please choose a blocking filter from the drop-down above or, if you already have a blocking filter, you can choose the first option, which does not include a blocking filter. Thank you.

Read below for further information on the blocking filter options.

B1200 Blocking Filter for use with the LS100MT

The B1200 blocking filter is the most economical choice and is recommended for those who only plan to do visual observations (no imaging). You will have the best results with the 12 mm blocking filter if your mount has auto-tracking. For manual tracking, we recommend the B1800, with it's wider field of view. The BF1200 will come in a 2" diagonal housing.

B1800 Blocking Filter for use with the LS100MT

The 18 mm blocking filter is recommended for anyone who wishes to do imaging, will be tracking the Sun manually, or just wants more sky area round the Solar disk. The B1800 will come in a 2" diagonal housing that has T2 connections for mounting a camera or other T2 accessory.
