Coronado SolarMax 60 II Double Stack Solar Telescope
with RichView Tuning & 15 mm Blocking Filter

The Coronado SolarMax II Solar Telescope is a beautiful instrument that sports polished brass and black finishes as well as precisely crafted tuning knobs. When you purchase a Coronado SolarMax 60 II Solar Telescope your package includes:

  • "Double Stacked" Coronado SolarMax 60 Solar Telescope with two Filter Etalons for increased resolution and contrast
  • Coronado 15 mm Blocking Filter
  • Coronado Mounting Rings
  • Coronado Cmax 25 mm Eyepiece
  • Coronado Sol Ranger Solar Finder
  • Coronado Hard Carrying Case
  • Life Time Tech Support from High Point Scientific

So why is a "Double Stacked" solar telescope better then a traditional solar telescope? The simple answer is that you get significantly enhanced optical resolution with the "double stacked" version.

Coronado has enhanced the "double stacked" SolarMax 60 by placing an additional filter etalon at the front of the scope. Now there are two etalons present, one internally with the new RichView tuning system and one at the front of the scope with the T-Max tuning system.

"Double Stacking" the etalons improves the scopes resolution by reducing the already narrow <0.7 angstrom bandpass to an even narrower <0.5 angstrom bandpass. With this set up, the enhanced resolution and contrast will offer a view of the sun that is absolutely stunning.

The "double stacked" system works the same as a non "double stacked" system, the only difference is that now it's a three part system. The telescope body incorporates a tunable sub-aperture etalon in its body as well as a removable etalon on the front of the scope. These tunable etalons works in conjunction with a 10 mm blocking filter situated in the solar telescopes 1.25" star diagonal. Together these elements produce a < 0.5 Angstrom passband which yields an optimal balance of prominence and surface detail.

RichView Tuning - newly re-designed Coronado SolarMax II 60 mm Solar Telescope with RichView system is a great step forward in solar telescope development. The Rich View Tuning Method allows you to zero in on the most precise wavelength of light for each area of the sun on either side of the hydrogen-alpha (Ha) band by tuning the primary filter etalon with an adjustment lever on the side of the scope's body. This functionality assists in tuning in the highest contrast views of active regions, flares, filaments and other surface areas of the sun. The new Rich View system will also allow for spectacular views of the prominences on the solar limb.

Blocking Filter - The Blocking Filter is one of the features on the Coronado SolarMax Series of Solar Telescopes that influences cost. The SolarMax 60 can be sold with a 5 mm, 10 mm and 15 mm blocking filter. Larger blocking filters are better suited to capture additional image detail and contrast as well as enhancing the imaging capabilities of the scope.

Focusing - The Coronado SolarMax 60 has a precisely machined helical focuser at the back of the scope. The focuser has a rubber grip ring to assist in detailed focus movements.

Cemax Eyepiece - The 25 mm Coronado Cemax Eyepiece was built specifically for solar observation. The 25 mm Cemax eyepiece generates a magnification of 16x. Coronado offers an entire line of Cemax Eyepieces and a barlow lens so you can finely tune your magnification settings.

Other Accessories - In addition to the Coronado 25mm Cemax Eyepiece the Coronado SolarMax II also comes with a Hard Carrying case for easy and safe transportation. For the easy alignment of the solar scope on the sun Coronado provides a Sol Searcher view finder. And for easy mounting to a multitude of mounts Coronado provides a brass mounting ring.

Coronado has been pioneering solar observation for years which is why they are always the first to develop industry leading technology and functionality. The SolarMax Solar Telescopes have been used around the world by serious solar enthusiasts and professional research facilities for observation of surface detail and prominences on the Sun in hydrogen-alpha (Ha) light. Powerful but very portable, this high resolution Solar Telescope offers dedicated visual observation of the Sun as well as high quality imaging. We are heading toward solar maximum and the views of the sun are going to get better and better. The Coronado SolarMax 60 II will help you witness this uniquely amazing event!
