  • Approximate FWHM bandwidth of 6 nm
  • Optimally suited for photographing planetary nebulae as well as the remains of supernovae
  • Best out-of-band blocking possible from ultraviolet (UV) through infrared (IR)
  • Experience very high contrast with no haloing
  • German-made for superb optical quality!

About the Astronomik H-Alpha 6 nm MaxFR CCD Clip-Filter

An extremely narrow emission-line filter, the Astronomik MaxFR 6 nm H-Alpha Clip-Filter (8h11vp) is best equipped for CCD imaging with instruments down to f/2. This filter allows H-alpha light from emission nebulae to pass through to your sensor while obstructing the remainder of the spectrum entirely. Using this filter guarantees 90% transmission or more at H-Alpha (656nm). This filter is made to Astronomik's exacting standards. While transmission ratings may vary between each filter, you are guaranteed a transmission rating greater than 90%, with a typical transmission rating of around 96% for the 6 nm Ha. The specific T-Max will be listed on the filter case. You can rest easy knowing that every unit is thoroughly tested and guaranteed to meet Astronomik's stellar benchmark of performance!

The FWHM of the Astronomik MaxFR 6 nm H-Alpha CCD Filter is optimized for maximum contrast between objects that emit H-Alpha, such as emission nebulae, and the background sky. While the 12 nm is similar in function, the 6 nm offers higher contrast gain due to the smaller FWHM. The trade-off is the dimming or eradication of some background stars in the final image. Using the Astronomik 6 nm H-Alpha in conjunction with the 12 nm H-Alpha filter will provide maximum contrast in HII objects (6 nm) while keeping background stars visible (12 nm) in the final image.

Given that the Astronomik MaxFR 6 nm H-Alpha CCD Filter completely suppresses the main offenders of light pollution, mercury (Hg) and sodium (Na) emissions lines, it makes for an excellent filter for use in a light-polluted environment.

About the Astronomik MaxFR Filter Line

This high-quality line of astrophotography filters uses a built-in MFR coating technique to produce the best out-of-band blocking possible, from the ultraviolet to the infrared. The MaxFR filter line by Astronomik is manufactured using an entirely new process specifically designed for fast optical systems and focal ratios. This results in extremely high contrast with no haloing!

About the Astronomik EOS R APS-C Clip Filter System

Astronomik EOS R APS-C clip filters are suitable for use with Canon EOS R APS-C camera models. Facilitates imaging from both urban and rural areas, and does not require any modifications to the camera housing for use. Once the filter has been slid into place and is level, you can then reinstall the camera lens, and you'll be ready to start imaging.

Without any tools and using only a finger, this filter can be easily installed. Removal does require the aid of an included small hook, but only initially. As soon as the filter is out far enough for you to grip with your fingers, you can go ahead and take it out the rest of the way and place it back in the case.

Please note this filter must NEVER be used for solar observing or imaging. Doing so will cause permanent damage to your eyes.
