More About the Astronomik OWB Type 3 CCD Filter

Not typically designed for astronomical use, the purpose of the Astronomik OWB (Original White Balance) filter is for converting DSLR cameras without a built-in IR filter, either through modification or by having it completely removed, to be used for traditional terrestrial photography. Converted DSLR cameras have a white balance that makes them impractical for terrestrial applications. With this OWB filter, the DSLR's spectral sensitivy will be returned to its initial range.

The OWB (Original White Balance) filter shifts the complete spectrum of a converted DSLR in such a manner that the camera will not be exclusively usable for astro-photography. Therefore the decision, whether to "victimize" a DSLR in order to exclusively use it for astronomical tasks, or accept the lower sensitivity on the red end of the spectrum is now a thing of the past. This OWB Filter Type 3 is parfocal with other Astronomik filters.

Multi-layer coatings insulate this filter from deterioration caused by the effects of scratching, aging, and high humidity. This filter is also diffraction limited and therefore will not reduce the optical performance level of your telescope.
