Schmidt Cassegrain telescopes are a very popular type of telescope, and Celestron is one of the most well-known and well-respected manufacturers of this design. While the Schmidt Cassegrain Telescope (SCT) design provides unmatched performance in such a compact design, it does require occasional collimation of its optical system. This is done by adjusting the secondary mirror which sits in a housing centered in the front corrector of the telescope.
The adjustment of its secondary mirror is accomplished by adjusting three Phillip’s head screws located on the secondary mirror holder. Replacing those screws with Bob’s Knobs allows you to leave the screwdriver in the toolbox and adjust your collimation with nothing more than your thumb and forefinger! If you have any questions about which knobs are compatible with your Celestron SCT, you can always reach out to our non-commissioned tech advisors, and they will be happy to help.
