Confirmed Compatibility

The Celestron StarSense Auto Telescope Alignment Accessory is compatible with many of Celestron's most popular mounts; if you have an Alt/Az or equatorial mount from Celestron, chances are you'll be able to add this automation accessory to your setup! Set Up With No Star Knowledge!

Setting up the Celestron Celestron StarSense Auto Telescope Alignment Accessory can be done in just a few steps and requires no knowledge of constellations or stars! Once the StarSense AutoAlign is installed on your scope and the hand controller has been replaced with the included hand controller, engaging your intelligent alignment assistant is four short steps away: level your tripod and mount, send it to the home/ index marks, confirm time/date/location, and press 'Align'! Then stand back and watch as the StarSense AutoAlign commands your mount around the sky and computes your precise mount pointing model.

The first time you use the StarSense AutoAlign with your telescope, you will need to complete one additional calibration procedure. You'll be prompted to do this after your initial alignment the very first time you use the StarSense AutoAlign. Once complete you will only need to go through the above procedure to align each session for as long as the StarSense remains attached to your telescope. You will not need to know any constellations or stars for this process; once the very first alignment is complete, use the 'Stars' button to select and slew to a star of Magnitude 2 or lower. Place your lowest magnification eyepiece in the scope, and center the noticeably bright star in your field of view or immediate vicinity. Switch in a higher magnification eyepiece, center again, and then accept the solution once computed. Your StarSense AutoAlign will now need to perform another alignment. Once this offset is set, you will not need to go through this process again so long as you leave your StarSense AutoAlign attached to your scope!

Hands Off Operation
Once you've gone through the simple first-time camera offset calibration, the Celestron StarSense AutoAlign sets up your mount for precise GoTos without any looking through your eyepiece for as long as you keep it attached! Using a technique known as 'plate solving' the StarSense AutoAlign can determine exactly where your telescope is pointed with an image from its electronic eye. By scanning around the sky and taking several images at a number of different positions, your mount's internal pointing model will be precisely calibrated. If your location is partially obscured by trees or tall objects, don't fret, as StarSense AutoAlign will automatically scan for another alignment point!

Advanced Mount Modelling
The Celestron StarSense Auto Telescope Alignment Accessory allows you to create an advanced mount model without any additional software. With electronic precision behind your alignment, by default this will give you an incredibly accurate horizon to horizon model. For those looking for an even more enhanced modeling experience however, the StarSense AutoAlign allows you to add additional alignment points to further increase your mount's precision.

Wide Telescope Compatibility
The StarSense AutoAlign comes with two brackets to cover the vast majority of telescopes on the market today! For Celestron telescopes such as their SCTs, EdgeHDs, and the 4SE, the pre-installed large bracket can be connected directly to the optical tube as either a replacement for or a companion to your stock finder scope. For most any other scope, the additional bracket can be swapped in to mount the StarSense AutoAlign in a standard findershoe! Once your StarSense AutoAlign is installed, you'll need to complete a one time calibration to tell this accessory what its offset is; once this is done you can enjoy StarSense's incredible automation for as long as it remains attached! If you want to switch this to a new telescope, you can additionally recalibrate this offset, ensuring this accessory can upgrade with your setup.

StarSense Hand Controller Included
Completing the upgrade of your compatible Celestron mount with the StarSense Auto Telescope Alignment Accessory is a new hand controller! This is included with this kit, and is required to use the StarSense AutoAlign accessory. The StarSense hand controller maintains your stock hand controller's excellent features, such as the incredible Sky Tour, expansive built-in object GoTo list, and handy Identify function; and is installed by simply unplugging your original hand controller and plugging the StarSense hand controller in its place!
