Bringing iAFS to Your Astro System
Connecting iOptron iAFS3 3" Auto Focuser with 2" Visual Back to your equipment can be done with just one or two adapters! At this time iOptron offers and M117x1 threaded adapter (sold separately) to connect the iAFS 3 to your telescope. The length of the iAFS will add when fully collapsed is 94 mm, with 30 mm of outward travel available; so be sure to check that your telescope can focus with your equipment positioned within this range (measured from where the iAFS attaches to your scope). Be sure to attach any corrective elements when rough focusing and collecting this measurement. When it comes to connecting equipment, the iAFS 3 is a 3" focuser capable of providing 68 mm of clear aperture (maximum) with an M74x0.75 connection. A 2" visual back is included to attach 2" corrective elements, visual accessories, or standard astrophotography trains equipped with an adapter like the Apertura M48 Nose Piece; with a separately available M74x0.75 to M68x1 adapter that can provide a completely threaded solution.

Sleek Electronic Focus
Typical electronic focusers use
brackets or clamps to position an electronic motor in place of your stock
focus knob. This places a notable amount of weight off to one side and makes
for a bulkier, more involved, and imbalanced system. By integrating the
electronic focuser and temperature sensor components into the focuser itself
iOptron is able to mitigate these concerns with one sleek system. If
achieving perfect balance or an attractive and streamlined system is your

Three Ways to Focus
Whether you prefer remote or
manual focus, the iOptron iAFS3 3" Auto Focuser with 2" Visual Back has you
covered. With two USB-C ports and two USB C to USB A cables included (0.25 m
and 1 m), you have plenty of options when it comes to constructing an ideal
connection to your external or telescope-mounted PC. This will allow your
ASCOM or INDI compatible astronomy suite of choice to interface with the
iAFS, opening the door to focusing remotely and automatically for maximum
convenience and precision in your astrophotography sessions. You can
additionally access the electronic precision of this focuser through the
focus adjustment buttons on the top of the focuser, which can be pressed for
micro adjustments or held for larger adjustments. While more traditional
electronic focusers can lock you out of manual focus adjustments, this isn't
the case with iAFS—with a focus adjustment knob built into the unit to
allow you to make quick manual adjustments even when the unit is not powered
up. With position memorization when powered off, you can make these changes
without worrying about having to recalibrate the focuser once power is
turned back on!
Precisely Engineered
The iOptron iAFS3 3" Auto Focuser
with 2" Visual Back is engineered with precision and strength in mind! The
belt-reduced stepper motor system driving this integral electronic focuser
gives you backlash-free focusing and an ultra-fine resolution of 0.6 μm
for payloads of up to 13 lb. This is housed in an all metal body, weighing
1062 g and measuring 94 mm x 133 mm (measured at top of electronics/ motor
box; 108 mm diameter). Over-travel stops are built-in to both directions
which will prevent you from overextending and damaging the iAFS or inside of
your scope. For those looking to adjust their sensor's window into the night
sky, a camera angle adjuster has been integrated as well—simply loosen
the angle lock knob, rotate, then re-lock. Finally, this additionally
features two sets of two M4 screws which can be used to install a finder
shoe for your finder, guider, or other Synta-style accessory needs!
