Optolong L1 2" Dual-Combo Filter Set
Conquer Light Pollution with this Optolong Dual-Combo Filter Set!
No need to travel to a dark sky site when you have the Optolong L1 2" Dual-Combo FIlter set among your astrophotography gear! This combo set brings you two filters have carefully designed to block out annoying light pollution while still allowing the signal from celestial objects onto your color camera’s sensor. This kit brings you both of these fantastic filters for either a quick way to enhance your images of narrowband and broadband targets alike; or a unique pairing that will create incredible images of targets containing both broadband detail and narrowband nebulosity!
This filter set from Optolong brings you two high-quality 2" filters: the Optolong L-Para and Optolong L-Quad! The dual-band L-Para brings you 10 nm bandpass windows on the Ha and OIII wavelengths for stark contrast and incredible detail on the detail rich emission portions of nebulae. This filter has been meticulously engineered to provide this powerful performance without bright halos and with 85% transmission & fast f/2 focal ratio compatibility. The broader L-Quad filter provides a more gentle filtering profile, excelling at providing a noticeable boost in contrast/ reduction of light pollution while still rendering broadband targets in stunning detail and color. While the inclusion of both stellar filters gives you the versatility to hone in on a wide variety of incredible deep sky objects, Optolong has specifically paired these incredible imaging filters together for a synergistic approach. Instead of using one of these filters per target, collect data with both filters and then combine the broadband and narrowband images together in post-processing for some impressive images! The color balance and natural broadband detail of the L-Quad combine with the sharp detail of the L-Para to give you composites that "pop" with rich color, detail, and contrast!
A High Performance Astrophotography Filter of the Utmost Quality
Let's Take a Deeper Look!
What sets one filter apart from another? Which filter is best for me? When developing a filter, manufacturers provide a chart that represents the wavelengths permitted through this filter. This gives insight into the filter’s performance, and what it can help you achieve. So, how exactly do I read a transmission chart? Our team has put together a comprehensive article, to help you understand the fundamentals on How to Read a Transmission Chart. More Detail, Less Light Pollution
Opening the doors to capturing outstanding images from the city, this L-Para and L-Quad combo is a perfect solution for those surrounded by light pollution. Read more below as we highlight the key features that make these filters a must have, showcasing applications, versatility, and optical integrity.
Light Pollution No More!
Light from street lamps are effective at illuminating our atmosphere, shrouding our view and making it difficult for us to observe objects within space. By carefully crafting their optics, Optolong designed the L-Quad Enhance Filter with light pollution in mind. Actively suppressing the wavelengths from mercury and sodium street lamps allows your camera to ignore light pollution and collect signal from celestial bodies! As you can see in the graph, the wavelengths from light pollution are effectively blocked, while still allowing the wavelengths emitted from objects in space! The L-Para effectively blocks out light from surrounding street lamps and homes, making it wonderful for environments up to Bortle class 7.
Exquisite Detail
H-alpha (656.3 nm) and OIII (500.7 nm) are two of the most abundant emission lines within emission nebulae. As opposed to collecting these wavelengths individually with two different filters and a monochrome camera, this L-Para collects Ha and OIII in one go, bringing narrowband imaging to your color camera. Not only can you create full color images in less time, but your imaging sessions will be more streamlined with only one filter to manage. With a narrow bandwidth of 10 nm, this Optolong L-Para ensures each emission is well defined within the captured frames. A bandwidth this slim effectively blocks out light from surrounding street lamps and homes, making it wonderful for environments up to Bortle class 7. Designed for color cameras, the Optolong L-Quad Enhance Filter allows the rich signal from celestial bodies in, while cutting ambient light pollution out, allowing for an image that is more saturated, color balanced, and has sharper details. With more than 90% transmittance of the nebula emission lines at H-Beta, OIII, H-Alpha, and SII, the details captured through this filter are unparalleled. Also, with a near IR cut-off to 1000nm, IR noise is greatly diminished!
Effortless Integration
This Optolong L-Para and L-Quad are housed within metal filter cells and feature M48x0.75 threads, allowing them to easily incorporate into just about any setup! Either thread the filters into a filter wheel, a filter drawer, or through a direct connection within your imaging train. The 2” diameter provides even illumination even across full frame sensors, ensuring outstanding performance from corner to corner.
Built With Quality in Mind
Designed to deliver both quality and durability, Optolong has crafted these filters with the utmost precision. The 1.85 mm thick optical glass of the L-Para offers impressive light transmission at the Ha and OIII wavelengths, providing clear detail and exceptional contrast. The slender filter cells integrate seamlessly into the majority of filter housings on the market today, while also offering incredible security with its metal build! Optolong has crafted the L-Quad Enhance Filter using specialized coatings to protect this quad-band filter from scuffs, scratches, and to improve its sturdiness. Utilizing Ion-assisted deposition coating technology, this carefully designed coating also provides stability on the wavelengths captured when exposed to changes in temperatures, such as the changes in temperature throughout a night of imaging. The Optolong L-Quad Enhance Filter also contains multiple layers of anti-reflective coating, ensuring the images captured remain pristine!
