Optolong OIII CCD 18nm 1.25" Mounted Filter
Optolong OIII CCD 18nm - 1.25” Observational Filter!
The Optolong OIII CCD 18nm 2" mounted filter is your perfect companion for nebulae observation! This filter is perfect for visually exploring most emission nebulae, planetary nebulae, and supernova remnants. The Optolong OIII filter excels in various conditions, and excels in observing bright nebulae like the iconic M42 Orion Nebula, even in areas with a fair amount of light pollution.
Designed to isolate an 18nm bandwidth of light centered at 500nm, it highlights the vivid OIII emission lines while cutting out unwanted wavelengths. This includes artificial light from mercury vapor and sodium vapor lamps, and the natural skyglow caused by atmospheric oxygen. Pair this filter with a large-aperture telescope under clear, dark skies with good seeing conditions for the best results. While narrowband filters don’t eliminate light pollution or increase an object’s brightness, they significantly enhance the contrast between the nebula and the night sky, bringing out stunning details without artificially brightening the view.
Quality Build for Quality Views!
The Optolong OIII CCD 18nm 2" mounted filter incorporates thoughtful features like a threaded filter holder, anti-reflective coating, and a CNC-machined cell. Read more below!
90% Transmission
This filter focuses 90% of its transmission on OIII wavelengths at 495.9nm
and 500.7nm, this blue-green filter brings celestial wonders to life! The
OIII filter is ideal for viewing the intricate beauty of planetary nebulae
and supernova remnants. How to read this chart? The horizontal axis
is the Wavelength in Nanometers(nm), and the vertical axis is transmission
in %. Furthermore, the red line represents the OIII filter transmission, the
green line indicates the nebula's emission, and the orange lines show the
artificial light emissions.
A Filter of Great Quality
The 1.25” OIII filter from Optolong sports several high-quality
manufacturing features. Offered in a 1.25" threaded form factor, this filter
is compatible with all 1.25" accessories with accommodating threads. This
filter is CNC-machined, and the black anodized aero-metal filter cell is
ultra-thin to provide the largest clear aperture; Laser-engraved to prevent
fading! Additionally, the glass has a rather small optical thickness, at
1.85 mm.
