This highly sensitive monochrome imaging device is primarily designed for precise autoguiding, but it also performs as a high-quality astrophotography camera.

Boasting an astounding 74% quantum efficiency, the StarShoot AutoGuider Pro will "guide" you to capturing better, cleaner, more precise astrophotos thanks to its sensitivity when used as an autoguider, and it features a built-in ST-4 port. The camera's slim, lightweight design allows for improved back-focus range and better compatibility with guiding and imaging accessories such as off-axis guiders.

Its 1/3" CMOS sensor resolution of 1280x960 (1.2MP) not only helps achieve delightfully accurate autoguiding, it also makes the StarShoot AutoGuider Pro an ideal solar system imaging camera capable of capturing sharp monochrome exposures of the Moon and planets. The camera's exceptionally fast frame rate of up to 200 frames per second (FPS) ensures you'll catch even the most fleeting moments of clear seeing for great results.

This versatile camera can even be used for imaging deep space objects such as galaxies and nebulas thanks to its long 10-minute maximum exposure time, and it can capture quick exposures as short as 20ms. Since the StarShoot AutoGuider Pro Mono Astrophotography Camera features a monochrome imaging chip, you can control and experiment with different balances of LRGB and narrowband filters to accentuate details.

This multipurpose performer comes with a host of useful items including a 1.25" nosepiece threaded for use with like-sized filters (not included), a parfocal ring to aid in matching eyepiece focus to camera focus, USB cable, secure RJ-11 autoguider cable, and a nice foam-lined tin case for safe storage and transport.

Color, Mono or Polarized Camera Color, Mono or Polarized Camera One of the main considerations when choosing an astrophotography camera is whether it comes with a color or monochrome (black & white) sensor. There is a large selection to choose from either way, although a good number of relatively inexpensive beginner imaging cameras often come in color only. While a color camera may be easier to master, a monochrome astro-imaging camera is nice because you can shoot in black and white, or you can add an external color filter wheel to the system and image in color. In fact, some monochrome cameras come with an internal filter wheel! Regardless of whether the filter wheel is internal or external, most of the time you will need to buy the filters themselves separately. That is usually best, however, because there is a huge selection of imaging filters to choose from, including the basic LRGB (Luminance, Red, Green & Blue) filter set as well as narrowband filters that allow you to explore particular wavelengths of light alone or as a group. While this is a huge subject, here is the takeaway: A color camera is a good choice if you want to end up with color images but don't want the added expense and learning curve of a monochrome camera and filter wheel.
