This 7 Position Medium Color Filter Wheel from QHY is compatible with 36-mm round (mounted and unmounted) filters and offers plenty of impressive features, such as an ultra slim 17-mm (+2-mm when used with the included adapter), as well as an innovative hybrid stepper motor with bi-directional carousel rotation, which ensures rapid filter access. The refined motor assembly is fully enclosed, which prevents dust accumulation, and narrow step angle of the direct drive motor eliminates backlash for reliable and precise movements. The filter wheel can be controlled independently via USB control mode, or it can be used in tandem with compatible QHY cameras via QHY's signature 4PIN control mode. The entire filter wheel weighs just 1.5lbs., and the comes with (1) Camera to CFW cable, (1) 12V power supply cable, (1) 1.8m USB 2.0 cable, M54 to 2-inch nosepiece adapter, (3x) M4x100mm screws, (7x) filter masks and mounting screws, (8x) spare mounting screws, (3x) M4x35mm screws, (1) preinstalled adapter for older QHY cameras (QHY163, QHY183, QHY294), and a driver download card!

Quick Installation Guide

Setting this filter wheel up is easy! All you need is a compatible astronomy camera, a Philips head screwdriver, and a set of M3 threaded screws.

• Begin by removing (7) screws on the telescope side of the filter wheel with a Philips head screwdriver, then remove the cover.

• After removing the cover, grab your compatible astronomy camera and locate the attachment points. You may need to remove the preinstalled adapter on the filter wheel first. For QHY600M-PROI and QHY600C-PH cameras, there should be six attachments points that are compatible with M3 threaded screws. Set the camera down so that the sensor is facing upwards and cover the sensor with a small piece of paper or cardboard (for protection).

• Next, determine whether you need to remove the internal filter carousel (If you are using a lightweight camera, you may only need to use four out of the six attachment points to install the camera). If you are using a camera on the heavier side, you'll need to use all six attachment points, which requires removing the internal filter carousel. You can do so by removing the four screws near the center of the surrounding the center axis.

WARNING: DO NOT REMOVE THE CENTER AXIS SCREW! When removing the internal filter carousel, you only need to remove the four screws surrounding the center axis screw. Removing the center axis screw can damage the filter wheel and void the warranty.

• Once you've aligned your camera and filter wheel, begin threading the M3 screws through the filter wheel attachment points and into the corresponding attachment points on the camera. Be sure to work in small increments, threading each screw about 90% of the way. Once all the screws of threaded most of the way, slowly tighten them so that each screw is equally threaded.

• After your camera is securely attached to the filter wheel, you can now reinstall the internal filter carousel (if removed) and begin to slot in your 36-mm imaging filters (using the filter masks and screws included with the filter wheel). Finally, reattach the filter wheel cover!

1: Remove the filter wheel cover.

2: Locate the attachment points on the compatible astronomy camera.

3: Remove the internal filter carousel (if necessary) and attached the camera.

4: Install your imaging filters (using the included filter masks) and reattach the cover.

Filter Compatibility
The QHYCFW3M is compatible with a wide range of imaging filters. With 7 internal filter slots, you can easily fit an entire set of broadband filters (LRGB) and narrowband (SHO), giving you versatility to capture a wide range of targets without having to manually swap between filters. The filter wheel comes with everything you need to mount 36-mm unmounted filters, including (7) filter masks and mounting screws.

Innovative Hybrid Stepper Motor
The QHYCFW3M filter wheel is optimized for precise, high speed filter switching. This is thanks to the bi-directional hybrid drive motor that always takes the shortest path when switching between any of the slotted filters. Unlike filter wheels with single direction motors, the QHYCFW3M has the ability to rotate clockwise or counterclockwise, so it doesn't need to complete a full 360 rotation to return to previous filters. This means you'll lose less time between frames, which adds up to more overall data captured over a night of imaging! The 3rd Gen motor also eliminates backlash by utilizing a narrow step angle for precise and reliable positioning.

Multiple Control Modes
The QHYCFW3M filter wheel has two control modes: USB control mode and 4PIN control mode. The USB mode allows you to control the filter wheel via PC or an independent control device. Simply plug the included USB cable into the filter wheel and compatible device, then you'll be able to control the filter wheel using any software that works with the downloadable ASCOM drivers found by following the link on the included driver download card. The 4pin control mode allows you to tether the filter wheel to a compatible QHY camera for a more synergized imaging experience! Switching between these two modes is easy, just open the case and push the button on for 4PIN mode, or off for the USB mode. There is a convenient LED indicator that flashes for one second after the filter wheel is powered on. A red light indicates the filter wheel is in the USB control mode, while a green light indicates the filter wheel is in the 4PIN control mode.
