A Whopping 102 Megapixel CMOS Camera from QHY

The QHY461-PH is a photographic version of the larger, scientific QHY461M-PRO. Using the same Sony IMX461 sensor, the QHY461-PH is more compact with just the features needed for astrophotography. The result is all of the features and performance essential to astrophotography at a significantly lower price than the scientific model.

The IMX461 is the first scientific CMOS sensor with a native 16-bit A/D on-chip. In addition, the sensor is back-illuminated, resulting in extraordinarily high quantum efficiency and extremely low dark current. Another benefit of back-illumination is an increased full-well capacity, including an Extended Full Well Mode. Lastly, this camera has zero amplifier glod, even at long exposures.

Many Advanced Features to Take Your Astrophotography to the Next Level!

The QHY461-PH incorporates many advanced features that can help take your astrophotography to the next level. The camera is designed to use the +12V to reboot the camera without disconnecting and reconnecting the USB interface, which is very convenient for remote controlling the camera. In addition, the camera features an innovative, proprietary suppression function to minimize random thermal noise. Lastly, USB traffic can be optimized to minimize horizontal banding in single frame or live frame modes, further improving the quality of images.

Sony IMX461 BSI CMOS Sensor
The QHY461-PH uses the Sony IMX461 Exmore R scientific CMOS sensor. The photographic (-PH) version of the QHY461 is housed in a smaller body than its scientific counterpart and has fewer scientific features, but keeps the same performance when operated through the USB3 standard. This provides excellent performance at a significantly reduced price point. The QHY461-PH has a whopping 102 megapixels in a 11656x8742 array with 3.76um pixels. In addition, the IMX461 is back-illuminated to provide high quantum efficiency and dynamic range. The IMX461 sensor is 44 x 33 mm, with a 55 mm diagonal.

True RAW Data
QHY cameras offer true RAW image output and produces an image comprised of the original signal only, maintaining maximum flexibility for post-acquisition astronomical image processing programs and other imaging applications. Many DSLR and other cameras have RAW image output, but this output still has detectible evidence of noise reduction and hot pixel removal. This can have a negative effect on the final image for astrophotography purposes.

Cooling and Dew Control
Integrated into the IMX461-PH are frost and dew control solutions. The optical window has a built-in dew heater and the chamber is protected from internal humidity condensation. In addition, this camera is cooled using dual stage TE cooling and a proprietary hardware technology to control dark current noise.
