The William Optics Elite Drawer OAG Kit

Get ready for enhanced nights under the stars with this William Optics Elite Drawer OAG Kit! Combining two accessories in one, this off-axis guider and filter drawer assembly streamlines your setup. Effortlessly swap between your own 2” filters and enjoy improved guiding in comparison to a traditional guidescope setup. Installation is also a breeze, making this a must-have addition to your imaging toolkit!

As opposed to utilizing the built-in filter thread within the body of your telescope, this William Optics Elite Drawer OAG Kit makes switching between filters quick and easy. This is especially handy for those with monochrome cameras, where imaging through multiple filters is necessary to complete a full-color astroimage. Helping you improve your guiding numbers, this William Optics off-axis guider aids in eliminating flexure, the slight difference in pointing positions between the main telescope and guidescope due to gravity. A more accurate field of view for your guide camera lends to more accurate guiding performance, and therefore higher quality images! Additionally, exposing your guide camera to the larger aperture of your main telescope as opposed to the smaller aperture of a guide scope enables better resolution of guide stars. Delivering convenience, accuracy, and ease of use, the William Optics Elite Drawer OAG Kit helps you take your astroimaging experience to the next level!

A Supercharged Accessory from William Optics

This Elite Drawer OAG Kit from William Optics is the perfect pairing for your astroimaging rig. Not only can you easily add and remove filters from your imaging train, this off-axis guide system gives way to enhanced guiding performance over traditional guidescope setups. Read more about this powerful combo below!

Attaching Your Main Camera
Within the box you’ll find two camera adapters, M54 and M48. The William Optics Elite Drawer OAG Kit supports sensors up to full frame in size. To attach your camera, please refer to the following instructions:
(1) Remove the filter drawer.
(2) Loosen the four camera adapter locking screws.
(3) Remove the pre-installed camera adapter from this OAG.
(4) Attach the appropriate M54 or M48 adapter to your camera.
(5) Insert the camera onto the OAG body.
(6) Rotate the camera until the sensor’s width is aligned with the OAG prism.
(7) Tighten the four camera adapter locking screws.
(8) Finally, adjust the prism height to avoid blocking your camera’s sensor. The prism can be adjusted (7.5~19 mm from the field center) by loosening the prism locking knob, carefully shifting it up or down with your hands, then retightening the locking knob as demonstrated in the image.

Setting Up Your Guide Camera
The guide camera adapter allows for two types of guide cameras to be attached: those with M42 threaded interfaces and 1.25” mini cylinder guide cameras. It’s important for your guide camera and main camera to be placed the same distance away from the prism, this way adjustments to the focus of your telescope ensures both cameras will reach focus simultaneously. In order to achieve this, first install your main camera and guide camera to this William Optics OAG, and attach the system to your telescope. Next, power on your main camera and find focus. Afterwards, you’ll adjust the helical focuser on the OAG to find focus for your guide camera. Lock this focus position in place with the helical focuser locking knob, and you’re ready for imaging! It’s recommended to perform this focusing procedure during the day to maximize your imaging time.

Built-In Filter Drawer
In addition to serving as an off-axis guider, this handy William Optics accessory includes a 2” filter drawer for quick access to your filters! Installing your filter is a breeze. Simply pull out the filter drawer, thread in your 2” filter on the Light-In Side of the drawer, then reinsert the drawer while keeping it pressed against the Light-Out Side of the OAG assembly to avoid scratching your filter.
