If you’re worried about your imaging train colliding into your tripod, the ZWO 160 mm Pier Extension is an excellent solution! This pier extension adds 160 mm to the top of your tripod, providing increased clearance for your imaging train. The PE160 is designed for use with the ZWO AM5 mount, though can be used with other mounts with the correct fittings and/or adapters.
Made from aircraft-grade aluminum, this pier extension is highly resistant against temperature shifts and wear and tear. Demonstrating this exceptional durability, the ZWO PE160 features a 28.7 lb. payload capacity. This gives you confidence that your gear is safe atop this ZWO pier extension! Crafted From Lightweight Aluminum
The hollow design of the ZWO PE160 helps reduce its weight to a modest 2.2 lbs. (1.0 kg), greatly increasing portability over the previous 70 mm PE70 model for hassle-free transport to and from your favorite astro-imaging location. Aesthetically, the bark black exterior of the PE160 provides a nice contrast to the AM5 mount’s classic red. Lastly, for a comfortable feel, the PE160 contains a matte tactile surface.
ZWO TC40 Carbon Fiber Connection
Connecting the PE160 pier extension to your ZWO TC40 Tripod is quick and simple thanks to the quick release locking knobs design. Simply insert the PE160 into the TC40, tighten the locking knobs, and attach the AM5 to the pier extension. Finally, secure the mount head in place by tightening the locking knobs found on the top of the PE160.

Yes, the PE160 is compatible with both the AM5 EQ Mount and AM3 EQ Mount from ZWO.
Can this pier extension be used with non ZWO tripods?
This pier extension is designed specifically for use with the ZWO AM5 EQ Mount and TC40 carbon fiber tripod. However, it can be used with third party tripods so long as the tripod includes the correct fittings and/or adapters.
