Better and Brighter Focus for 9.25" to 12" Telescopes!

Apertura didn't set out to create just another focus mask. They wanted to build something optimized for telescopes that measure between 9.25" and 12". When designing this focus mask, Apertura gathered data about a wide range of telescopes, and then used that dataset to arrive at the number of different sizes/patterns that would provide great performance for the telescopes the mask fits.

With this Apertura focus mask, you’re getting a mask that was thoughtfully designed to maximize performance for your scope, rather than being a mask with a pattern that has just been scaled up from another model, or uses the same size bars across multiple sizes, or even uses a bar size selected for its manufacturing economics rather than performance. Not only is the pattern specifically designed for the size range, but the construction material and mounting hardware were designed with durability and ease-of-use in mind. This focus mask is the perfect blend of quality and performance, all while keeping in mind economic value.

A Carefully Crafted Design for Optimal Performance!

How do you build a better focus mask that provides both excellent performance and value? Check out the article, "Building a Better Focus Mask," where we take a deep dive into how Apertura answered that very question! Read on below for a snapshot into how Apertura approached the best way to bring optimal focusing performance to your telescope. From the carefully designed focus mask patterns, the materials used, and hardware included, everything about the Apertura Focus Mask is meant to improve the focus of your unique setup.

Innovative Design
Bright and sharp focus pattern that was designed with performance in mind. Highly optimized patterns for each size mask give you the results that you deserve. The size of the focus mask bars and slots were determined using data gathered from a large range of telescopes that fit within the intended size compatibility. Rather than being scaled down or up based on other models, the Apertura focus mask is specially designed to optimize the performance of the telescope it fits. Apertura took this careful approach when it came to placing the hardware slots as well. Each slot is placed so that it aligns with the pattern, allowing it to improve the diffraction pattern’s sharpness and brightness.

Choosing the Right Material
Apertura provided extra care in selecting the material of the focus mask. Weighing the options of material such as plastic, acrylic, nylon, and other, Apertura decided 2mm thick CNC laser cut from 6061 aluminum with a black oxide finish would be the best fit for this design. This material provides the rigidity and quality necessary for longevity and durability.

Everything You Need Out of the Box!
Included with the purchase of the Apertura Focus Mask is all the hardware needed to use the mask with your telescope. The included hardware consists of six rubber washers, three mounting posts, and three thumbscrews. The material of the screws and mounting posts are nylon, chosen for its durability and to ensure the focus mask system would not mar the telescope finish.

Telescope Compatibility
This Apertura Bright Focus Mask is the "extra large" size of the series, and it is designed to fit telescopes with an aperture of 9.25" to 12" and an outside diameter of 10.32" to 14.78". The bars and slots on the focus mask are specifically designed to work with telescopes of these sizes so they can optimize the performance of your scope by giving you brighter and better focus. Some examples of popular telescopes this extra large focus mask would fit are the Meade 12" LX90 ACF and the Celestron 9.25" EdgeHD NexStar Evolution.
