Askar 0.85x Reducer for 80ED OTA
Upgrade you Askar 80ED Experience!
The feelings of “awe” when viewing the universe through an eyepiece is no doubt a one of a kind experience. As your skills progress, however, so will the desire to discover dimmer and dimmer objects—a feat difficult with just an eyepiece. Certain celestial objects and cosmic structures can only be resolved by attaching a camera to your telescope, exposing hidden details that would have otherwise gone unseen. By adapting your Askar 80ED for top-tier long-exposure astrophotography, this 0.85x Reducer opens the doors to a whole new world of cosmic exploration!
This Askar reducer has two main jobs: providing a flat imaging field and shortening the native focal length of the 80ED telescope. By correcting for field curvature, an aberration that results in distorted, elongated stars particularly around the edges of the frame, you’re well on your way to capturing long exposures with sharp stars corner to corner! This reducer additionally decreases the native focal length of 560 mm to 476 mm and focal ratio of f/7 to f/5.9 for a wider field of view and speedier light collection. With a flat imaging field and an expanded view at hand, enjoy unveiling the vivid colors of the Orion Nebula, resolve the spiral arms of the Andromeda Galaxy, and expose the hidden blue dust within the Pleiades Star Cluster. Precision-crafted and adopting a triplet design, this Askar 80ED 0.85x Reducer provides detail-rich, high-contrast images, and is built to last. Thanks to the ingenuity from Askar, you’re well equipped to take your astronomy adventures to new heights!
A Must Have Astrophotography Accessory
While the Askar 80ED is outstanding for visual use on its own, the addition of this 0.85x reducer takes this telescope to the next-level—opening the doors to high-performance astrophotography applications. By correcting for field curvature and expanding your field of view, you can say goodbye to distorted, elongated stars, and reap the benefits of a wider scope of vision. Read on as we take a deeper dive into the aspects of this Askar 80ED 0.85x Reducer below!
Triplet Optical Design
In general terms, the more lens elements a refractor telescope or optical accessory possesses, the sharper the image will become. This Askar 80ED 0.85X Reducer houses three internal glass elements with one piece of extra-low dispersion (ED) glass, a premium substrate designed to diminish chromatic aberration and focus the incoming light with a high degree of precision. This means stars from edge to edge will be sharp and pinpoint, even across APS-C sized sensors! WIth its 0.85x reducing rate, the native 560 mm focal length will be lowered to 476 mm, making it a wonderful choice for those seeking a wider field of view. Additionally, the focal ratio of f/7 is lowered to f/5.9 for faster photon collection!
Engineered for Excellence
Precision-engineered, this Askar 80ED 0.85x Reducer is entirely CNC machined for the utmost optical performance and durability. It boasts a sleek, black finish, and provides a solid mount for your imaging train. Though robust in design, the entire unit weighs only 0.97 lbs (0.44 kg). At the rear of this reducer, you’ll find a 360° rotator—a convenient inclusion for framing up your targets! Filter attachment is quick and seamless with the built-in 2” filter threads, and the industry standard of 55 mm of required backfocus from the rear M48 threads is easily achievable. Two threaded metal caps keep the optical lenses safe when not in use.
Effortless Installation
Installation of this Askar 0.85x Reducer is quick and straightforward. First, remove the preinstalled 2” adapter from the rear of the Askar 80ED. Next, remove the threaded metal dust cap from this reducer, and screw the accessory into place as demonstrated in the featured image. If you would like to add a 2” filter, easily do so by removing the filter adapter, thread in your filter, then reinstall the adapter. You’re now all set to attach your imaging equipment! The rear-end thread type is M48x0.75, enabling seamless integration of a host of cameras, filter wheels, off-axis guiders, and more.
