Askar 50P Petzval Astrograph
Askar 50P Petzval Astrograph
Pack a powerful astrophotography optic with you wherever you go, with this small scope! With 50 mm of aperture and a snappy f/3.8 design free of strict backfocus requirements, this fast scope kickstarts imaging sessions from the backyard or on-the-go. Picturesque wide-angle portraits are just a handful of shots away, with the Askar 50P Petzval Astrograph!
Create stellar shots of deep sky objects with less integration time, with the Askar 50P Petzval Astrograph! The lightning fast f/3.8 focal ratio collects data in a flash, allowing you to begin pulling out detail and contrast in deep sky objects sooner. At just under 6" collapsed and a featherweight 3.1 pounds, this snappy astrophotography performance is ultra-portable, ready to provide incredible results wherever you go. The quadruplet Petzval design behind this scope not only provides clarity, sharpness, and contrast across the flat 1" imaging circle, but also alleviates the strict backfocus requirements that can make building your imaging train more involved than you might prefer. With 190 mm of focal length from the 50 mm aperture, you'll capture stunning views of large deep sky objects like the Orion Nebula with ease.

Quadruplet Petzval Lens Design
A quadruplet Petzval
optical design with an SD (super-low dispersion) element underpins the Askar
50P Petzval Astrograph, allowing it to render the nebulous wisps of the
Pleiades and spiral of Andromeda in powerful detail and contrast. With its
50 mm aperture and superbly quick f/3.8 focal ratio projecting a 190 mm
focal length image on a 1" image circle, capturing the fine facets of large
targets like this is fast. For those looking to push this portable
system to its limit, the Askar 50P can illuminate out to an APS-C frame,
though this portable powerhouse shines its brightest with smaller chips like
the incredible IMX533 and IMX585 sensors from Sony. Backfocus requirements
are relaxed, allowing your system to deviate slightly from the standard 55
mm while still seeing stellar results.
Helical Focuser
Hone in on the fine details of our
universe, with the intuitive helical focuser. This camera lens style focuser
makes adjustments easy, dialing in focus with just a quick twist. Its
in-line design allows the Askar 50P to maintain a sleek profile for easy
transport; and moves only the forward optical elements to eliminate concerns
like drawtube sag when using robust imaging systems on this small scope.
Multiple Astrophotography Finishing Touches
Whether
you're looking for simple and streamlined or portable yet powerful, the
Askar 50P Petzval Astrograph is ready! For starters this comes ready for
most portable mounts on the market with a 6.3" V-Style dovetail bar. From
there, the Askar 50P features two Synta finder shoes and one multi-purpose
Arca-Swiss top rail that can connect a number of key astrophotography
supporting systems like wireless control centers and mini guide scopes. The
M48 camera attachment point can also hold 2" filters for giving your images
a boost; and additionally connects to a built in rotator that allows you to
find your favorite framing. If you're looking to cut the bulk, the finder
shoes, handle, and dovetail bar can be removed; perfect for building an
ultra-compact rig or mounting the 50P on an existing one!
Frequently Asked Questions
How does the speed of this telescope help me collect data faster?
The speed of a telescope, reflected by the focal ratio (f/), relates to
how bright of an image the telescope provides. The lower the number, the
brighter the image you get for a fixed exposure time; or importantly, the less
time it takes to collect an image of the same brightness as a slower scope.
With a fast focal ratio of f/3.8, the Askar 50P collect more frames in the
same amount of time or the same amount of frames in less time compared to
slower f/5 scopes which are already seen as fairly fast options (assuming
exposure time is set to provide an image of the same brightness for both
scopes).
Do I need special filters for this telescope?
While the
Askar 50P is markedly fast option, it is not fast enough to require
'highspeed' filters which generally are only recommended with scopes of around
f/3.6-f/3.4 and below.
Can forget about backfocus entirely with the Askar 50P?
Compared to typical telescope systems that pair a scope with a separate
corrector/flattener, the Askar 50P does not require your camera sensor to be
set at an exacting distance away from the back of the telescope.
However, while it is more forgiving it does still
require backspacing between 50-65 mm.
