How to Set Up the 32 mm Guide Camera
To get your guiding system focused in before you're out under clear skies, Apertura's isolated the prime positioning for your guide scope's focuser and camera! While you likely will need to fine tune these specifications based on your exact gear and local conditions, by following along with this simple guide you'll be off to an excellent start!
Begin by loosening the guide scope ring thumbscrews and sliding the tube forward, almost as far forward as it can move with the 1.25" camera holder installed, then re-tighten the thumbscrews. Now loosen focus locking ring (coin-edge ring just behind the front section of the guide scope) until it contacts the guide scope ring. Twist the front section of the guide scope to thread it in or out of the main body. Measuring between the front section and the focus locking ring, adjust until you have the correct Objective Distance from the graphic below. Then, without touching the objective and adjusting its distance, tighten the focus locking ring down until it contacts the front section and locks it in place.
Next loosen the 1.25" camera connection ring. If you have a standard or "puck-style" cameras, attach the 1.25" nosepiece included with most cameras and fully insert this into the 1.25" holder. If you're using a mini style camera, install the 1.25" extension and then insert the camera until there is 12 mm of space between the 1.25" holder and the beginning of the main housing of the camera as shown in the graphic. Once your camera is inserted, tighten down the rear coin-edge ring to lock your camera in place. You'll now be all set for only minor adjustments out in the field!
