In order to keep dew accumulation on your corrector lens as low as possible, use this Dew Heater Ring from Celestron. Made especially for C14 SCT, EdgeHD, and 36 cm RASA astrograph telescopes, dew heater rings are critical to ideal observing and imaging performance. To install, simply substitute this ring for the retaining ring by permanently mounting it to your 14” SCT. This way you’ll never be without it. How It Works

Replacing the plastic retaining ring on your 14" SCT's corrector lens with this Celestron Dew Heater Ring leads to better dew protection via more productive heating across the lens. With a solid frame made out of tough but lightweight aluminum, this dew ring is capable of supporting the corrector lens as well as any cable wiring currently in operation. While other heating bands or strips provide indirect warmth to the glass by heating the lens cell, the Celestron Dew Heater Ring averts dew formation by directly heating the lens.

For the constant heat necessary to avoid dew buildup in extremely damp environments, just plug the Dew Heater Ring into an independent 12V DC power source. Even with the power and thermistor jacks kept secure between uses by this ring's two storage clips, it is also able to conform to the optical tube's dust cover.

Together with the two storage clips, the Dew Heater Ring also features a cable management clip that allows you to confine the power and thermistor jack to keep them from dangling through a connection to the telescope's front cell. Unwanted pulls on the cable connection to the rings are also minimized with this clip.

Enhance Your Setup

To achieve the highest level of dew prevention while maximizing power efficiency, Celestron strongly recommends pairing the Dew Heater Ring with a Smart DewHeater Controller (sold separately). The controller uses the ring's built-in thermistor and its internal environmental sensor to provide just the right amount of heat to the corrector to prevent dew based upon the ambient temperature, ambient humidity, and temperature of the Schmidt corrector, which can dramatically reduce the ring’s power draw, greatly increasing battery life. The ring also includes an extension cable for connecting the ring directly to one of the controllers’ heater output ports, or to a third-party controller’s heater output port. (Note: the ring’s integrated thermistor is only compatible with the Celestron Smart DewHeater Controllers).

Celestron also recommends adding a dew shield to your setup. While not mandatory, a shield will cut down on the amount of power the Dew Heater Ring needs to keep the optics clear.
