Installation is a snap and requires only that the retaining ring be permanently replaced with this ring so that it’ll always be there when you need it. How It Works

Consisting of aluminum construction that is simultaneously durable and lightweight, this Dew Heater Ring enables more effective heating across the 5” Schmidt-Cassegrain’s corrector lens by taking the place of the plastic retaining ring. Both the corrector lens and any cable connections currently being used are fully supported by this dew ring and its rigid frame. Contrary to alternative heating bands or strips, Celestron Dew Heater Rings apply direct heat to the corrector glass instead of ineffectively warming the glass via the lens cell. This greatly improves heat transfer for preventing dew accumulation.

For the constant heat necessary to avoid dew buildup in extremely damp environments, just plug the Dew Heater Ring into an independent 12V DC power source. Even with the power and thermistor jacks kept secure between uses by this ring's two storage clips, it is also able to conform to the optical tube's dust cover.

Enclose the power and thermistor jacks to prevent them from hanging down while limiting undesired pulls on the cable to ring connection with the use of the cable management clip also included with this Dew Heater Ring. Hooks up to the front cell of the telescope.

Enhance Your Setup

To achieve the highest level of dew prevention while maximizing power efficiency, Celestron strongly recommends pairing the Dew Heater Ring with a Smart DewHeater Controller (sold separately). The controller uses the ring's built-in thermistor and its internal environmental sensor to provide just the right amount of heat to the corrector to prevent dew based upon the ambient temperature, ambient humidity, and temperature of the Schmidt corrector, which can dramatically reduce the ring’s power draw, greatly increasing battery life. The ring also includes an extension cable for connecting the ring directly to one of the controllers’ heater output ports, or to a third-party controller’s heater output port. (Note: the ring’s integrated thermistor is only compatible with the Celestron Smart DewHeater Controllers).

Celestron also recommends adding a dew shield to your setup. While not mandatory, a shield will cut down on the amount of power the Dew Heater Ring needs to keep the optics clear.
