Super Narrow 3nm H-alpha Bandpass
Hydrogen alpha, one of the most abundant emissions in the universe, features a wavelength of 656.3 nm. As the primary component within the majority of emission nebulae, isolating the 656.3 nm wavelength is crucial in discerning structural detail within these celestial objects. This Chroma Technology H-Alpha filter features an outstanding transmittance of 99.12% at 656.3 nm, allowing copious amounts of Ha detail through to your sensor. Not only this, but the extremely narrow bandwidth of 3 nm provides distinct contrast between the Ha wavelength and any other wavelengths present. This means light pollution from urban settings or the Moon are of no concern, providing you with increased imaging opportunities. Compared to an 8 nm bandwidth, this 3 nm filter cuts through a higher amount of undesirable wavelengths, in-turn providing more definition on H-alpha nebulosity. Combine the captured data with data from an OIII filter and SII filter to create a stunning SHO image, or overlay RGB color data to make your true-color images pop!

Compatible with most filter wheels and filter drawers, seamlessly join this Chroma 3nm Ha filter to almost any set up! A wide variety of user-supplied filter holders, such as the ZWO EFW 8-position Filter Wheel, ZWO EFW Mini Five-Position Filter Wheel, and the QHY CFW3 Small Color Filter Wheel are great choices to house this Chroma filter within. The 1.25” size is wonderful for use with sensors featuring a diagonal less than than 31 mm, with Micro 4/3 sensors and smaller yielding the best results. The male threads on this mounted filter feature a height of 1.75 mm, while the filter cell height excluding these threads is 5.25 mm. The total filter height is 7 mm.

These coatings are applied using a technique called reactive magnetron sputtering, and offer superb resilience to humidity changes and extreme temperate fluctuations. Not only this, but these hard coating help preserve spectral accuracy in the central wavelength (CWL). Both sides of this filter are fully coated, with anti-reflective coatings found on the rear surface to prevent image distortions and image ghosting. Chroma astronomy filters utilize 3.0 mm thick single substrates of the highest quality glass. This use of a single substrate eliminates the need for lamination, in-turn improving the filter’s overall performance and durability.
