Adding an optical companion to your ultra portable star tracker, the Move Shoot Move Polar Scope, Adapter, and Illuminator Kit gives you an etched reticle guide to really hone in your Nomad alignment. If pushing your Milky Way picture times to the limit is your goal, then this polar alignment add-on is for you!
To freeze the night sky in place with your Nomad you need to align it with the same point of rotation, and with this kit you can hone in on this point with optical precision! Where some of Move Shoot Move's other excellent alignment aides like the Calibrated Pointer and Phone Adapter Kit use a general laser reference point or modern smartphone sensors to guide you in place, this polar scope provides you with a precisely etched reticle to precisely line up your alignment star or stars. While more time consuming than these other alignment guides, if you're looking to keep your shutter open as long as possible or try longer focal length lens this extra refinement can be rewarding; and with this kit you can install the polar scope alongside the Calibrated Pointer for a quicker alignment when that's all you need!
How To Use The Polar Scope
Using the polar scope itself is straightforward! For the Northern hemisphere Move Shoot Move suggests using a polar alignment mobile app set to the 'iOptron' reticle type, which will provide you with information on where to place Polaris. Once you have the correct star location for your date, time, and location, simply look through the polar scope and place your alignment star in the inner etching track. For those in the Southern hemisphere, this reticle features an Octans constellation etching. Locate this constellation in the sky, then rotate the polar scope until the etching of the constellation matches the orientation of the constellation. Finally adjust your Nomad until the etched constellation in the polar scope is overlaying the constellation in the sky.
You can bring the etched reticle into focus by adjusting the rear cap while looking at a star. Stars can additionally be focused by turning the front objective section of the polar scope. To unlock this adjustment, simply move the locking collar towards the objective lens (away from you, if looking in the scope); then once you're done turn it back the other way until it touches the main body (towards you). If you need to enhance the visibility of this etching, simply charge up the included illuminator cap with a flashlight (or allow it to charge during the day) and attach it to the front of the polar scope with the plastic thumbscrew! Please note there are two spots for this thumbscrew to accommodate different polar scope designs; for the polar scope included in this kit you will want the thumbscrew in the hole on the raised rear section.

The Move Shoot Move
Polar Scope, Adapter, and Illuminator Kit adds optically precise polar
alignment capabilities to your Move Shoot Move Nomad! The included polar
scope features an etched reticle with guides for both the Northern and
Southern hemispheres, allowing you to freeze the night sky regardless of
where you are. With fine adjustment on both the objective and eyepiece
putting all the pieces in focus is a cinch, ensuring you can hone in on your
alignment star or constellation! These optics are housed in a durable
aluminum housing and come with front and rear dust caps to keep your
alignment aide safe wherever your Milky Way adventure takes you.
Premium Adapter Bracket
For mounting your polar scope
this kit includes a robust adapter bracket which has been CNC machined from
aluminum. This precise milling matches the contours of your Nomad, making
installation simple — just remove the threaded red dimple cap from the
Nomad, slide the contoured bracket into place, and then reinstall the red
cap. Then slide the polar scope in from the back of the bracket, lock it in
place with the thumbscrew, and you're ready to align! This bracket is
compatible with the Move Shoot Move Calibrated Pointer as well, giving you
an optical alignment option alongside this easy laser guidance accessory.
Illuminator Included
Helping highlight the Move Shoot
Move Polar Scope's etched reticle is the included illuminator! This cap can
be installed and removed simply, and operates without any batteries; instead
emitting a passive florescent green glow. To recharge this glow you can
either set the illuminator cap out in the Sun, or hold it under the beam of
a flashlight!
