The TeleVue 5x 1.25" Powermate embodies this experience perfectly with high quality optics, near parfocal performance, and importantly no modification of your eye relief. This allows you to multiply the magnification of your view by an incredible 5 times with minimal additional aberrations or distortions compared to most Barlows, while looking through your eyepiece just as you would with no accessory between your viewport into the night sky and focuser/ diagonal, and requiring minimal refocusing when using the this accessory. Superb Magnification Multiplication
Typical
magnification multipliers—Barlows—can introduce vignetting, edge
field aberrations and longer eye relief alongside your closer look into the
universe. This is a consequence of the diverging light rays that leave a
traditional Barlow lens, and led TeleVue to create the Powermate design to
give users a "compact, high power, fully corrected image amplifier." With a
4-element design consisting of a negative doublet and positive
"pupil-correcting" doublet,
light rays exit the PowerMate in their original direction and give you
what TeleVue describes as a "pure magnification increase."
This telecentric design minimizes possible vingetting and keeps your
eyepiece's eye relief at the same distance as it would be unassisted, an
incredibly helpful feature for keeping long eye relief equipment from being
pushed out to uncomfortable distances. This entry in the series takes full
advantage of the high power possibilities of the Powermate design and
multiplies your view by 5x, providing a stark difference in zoom that will

Parfocal
The TeleVue 5x 1.25" Powermate features a
parfocal design to make quickly magnifying your view simple! When used with
an 1.25" star diagonal this design focuses your eyepiece with the focuser
set to almost the same position with and without the Powermate. This means
increasing your magnification can be done nearly effortlessly, compared to
typical Barlow solutions which require more significant focus adjustment.
Adaptable to Imaging
The Powermate line is for more
than just visual use! This 5x 1.25" Powermate provides a varying amount of
magnification for camera sensors, with 5x provided when the sensor is 0 mm
away from the top of the eyepiece holder all the way up to 7.7x when the
sensor is at 100 mm away. This isn't just for dedicated mini cameras or
astro cameras with an 1.25" nosepiece either—as the 1.25" eyepiece
housing can be unthreaded and the
Tele Vue T-Ring Adapter for 1.25" Powermate
(sold separately) installed for an M42/ T-thread connection for DSLR and
mirrorless T-rings or some dedicated astro cameras with the nosepiece
detached!

finished black metal housing with high contrast lettering that makes
identifying your gear in the dark easier; with a 1.25" chrome barrel for
your 2" diagonal or focuser. Holding your eyepieces securely without the
marring effect simple thumbscrew holders can impart, is a 1.25" brass
compression ring. 1.25" filter threads on the 1.25" barrel that will allow
you to enhance your view with 1.25" filters!
