This Apertura 2x Barlow lens features fully multi-coated optics and is designed for use with 1.25"eyepieces and filters, so it is compatible with the eyepieces and filter in this kit. It is a great way to extend the functionality of all your eyepieces! And at 3.1" long, this Barlow has a low-profile, not adding excessive height to your focuser setup. Experts agree that the most economical way to enhance the magnification range of your eyepiece collection is with a 2x Barlow lens. About the Apertura 1.25" 40 mm Plossl Filter

It seems that beginning amateur astronomers are most interested in accumulating telescope eyepieces that produce higher magnifications views. It is fun to see how high you can go without losing too much sharpness, but don't make the mistake of ignoring low power views! This Apertura 40 mm 1.25" Plossl Eyepiece is a great way to tease lower magnifications out of your telescope. The magnification you achieve will depend on your scope's focal length.

When you use a lower power eyepiece like this classic 40 mm Plossl, especially on deep-sky objects, it allows your telescope to deliver as much light as possible to your eye. With more light reaching your eye, you will see fainter detail than you would with a higher power eyepiece. That is why more advanced amateur astronomers tend to use higher power eyepieces on the planets, the Moon, and other relatively bright "small" objects while sticking with low magnification eyepieces for large, fainter deep-sky objects like galaxies and nebulae. This is the second reason for investing in an eyepiece like the Apertura 40mm; it allows you to see a wider swath of space than a higher focal length eyepiece. Remember, galaxies and nebulae are BIG, and if you use your high or medium-power eyepieces on them, you will only see a small area of a much larger object.

The Apertura 40 mm Plossl eyepiece comes with a 1.25" chrome barrel that is threaded for filters and has a blackened interior to keep stray light from bouncing around inside and lowering precious contrast. A soft rubber eyecup can be left upright or folded down for eyeglass wearers. The optics themselves consist of four elements that are fully multi-coated to keep contrast high. Super generous eye relief of 31 mm is more than enough for eyeglass wears to view in comfort. Like most Plossl eyepiece designs, this 40 mm has a medium field of view of 45-degrees.

About the Apertura 1.25" Moon Filter

The Moon is bright and this Moon Filter is just the thing for more comfortable (and rewarding!) viewing. It's like putting sunglasses on your telescope eyepiece! To use the Apertura Moon Filter, simply thread onto the barrel of a 1.25" eyepiece or Barlow lens with M28.5 x 0.6 thread and then insert it into the focuser or diagonal as usual. You will be amazed at how lunar features, such as craters big and small, maria, and mountains come into view when your eyes are not overpowered by the moon's brightness. This Apertura Moon Filter works well for Venus as well!

The Apertura 1.25" moon filter has been produced with high-grade optical glass and is anti-reflection coated to prevent glaring and ghosting. The green tint of the filter, along with 18% light transmission allows detailed views with increased contrast.
