Celestron Omni XLT

The Celestron Omni XLT telescope series is designed to give the beginner a great start in astronomy. Each telescope comes with either a refractor or a reflector OTA, a manual equatorial CG-4 mount with a weight capacity of about 20 pounds, an adjustable tripod with 1.75" aluminum legs and two counterweights.

Choose the Celestron Omni XLT 102 refractor and enjoy beautiful views of the Moon, planets and bright deep sky objects on a velvety dark sky. If you'd like a little more aperture, step up to the 120 mm Omni XLT refractor. The Omni XLT 120 offers about 38% more light-gathering than the 102 mm, which translates to more detail, especially when viewing deep-sky objects. Finally, make the Omni XLT 150 your choice if you want more bang for your buck, where bang equals aperture! The 150 model is a Newtonian reflector rather than a refractor. Reflectors cost less to manufacture than refractors, and that savings is passed onto you. The Omni XLT 150 Reflector is fairly short for its relatively large aperture and so it is still very portable.

The Celestron CG-4 Equatorial Mount does not come with motors or electronics, although it can be upgraded either now or in the future as your needs require. Manual slow motion control knobs make it easy to move the telescope in smaller increments, and you will get the hang of using the control knobs to follow the movement of objects in the eyepiece as the earth rotates.

If you want to dip your toe into astrophotography, upgrade your Omni CG-4 mount by adding the Celestron CG-4 Dual-Axis Drive System. It includes two motors, a power pack, and a simple hand control. Once the motors are installed and the CG-4 is polar aligned, the mount will track the movement of the stars in both right ascension and declination. The hand controller lets you move the telescope north, south, east and west. It is a simple system, but one that amateur astronomers used for decades before the invention of the computerized telescope mount!

Speaking of polar alignment, another upgrade for the CG-4 mount is the Celestron Polar Scope. This simple accessory slips into the polar axis of the Omni CG-4 and makes it easier to polar align by providing an etched reticle with a simple layout of stars that surround the pole star. Just line up the stars in the sky with the ones in the reticle and you are well on your way to aligning your telescope!
