DayStar Sol Series 130mm Dedicated Solar Telescope - Prominence
Introducing the latest release from DayStar Filters: The Sol Series! This line dedicated H-alpha solar telescopes offers safety, ease of use, and an exceptionally innovative design, all without compromise on quality and performance. Get ready to explore prominences, solar flares, filaments and many more exciting solar spectacles through a truly unique solar telescope!
Proudly holding the title of the largest scope in the series, the SOL130 is perfect for astrophotographers who to revel in the rich details of our closest star. By bringing together the innovative design of the Quark with a customized refractor crafted specifically for peak H-alpha performance, DayStar Filters created a truly unique solar telescope! With SOL60, you’ll have the precision and ease of use of the Quark, all within a cohesive unit capable of providing a vibrant, full disk view of our Sun!
Prominence Series
The SOL130P is a dedicated solar telescope optimized for viewing vibrant details of massive solar prominences, filaments, and flares that extend out into the outer most layer of our Sun, also known as the corona. The key that unlocks access to these otherwise obstructed details is the fully integrated DayStar Quark! As photons traveling from our Sun reach the 130mm primary objective, they first encounter a thin film of optical coating designed to narrow in on the Hydrogen Alpha 656nm wavelength. Next, they pass through an internally mounted blocking filter which attenuates the energy from our closest star. Then, they enter the first element of the telecentric Barlow, which “re-parallelizes” the light, priming it for the thermally tuned etalon. This ultra-narrow Fabry Perot etalon sits in an electronically heated chamber, which is precisely tuned to center the bandwidth, allowing only a narrow (>0.5Å) slice remaining transmission to exit and produce a stunning view of our Sun’s dazzling prominences and filaments!
Camera Connection Guide
Check out the table below to learn how to connect your camera to the SOL130! Please note: A focal reducing tilt adapter is only necessary if you wish to capture a full solar disc using astronomy cameras with APS-C, 1", 1/2" or smaller sensors. A non-reducing tilt adapter is sufficient for eliminating optical interference when capturing up close views of the Sun for all sensor types.

Stunning Views of our Closest Star!
Each solar telescope of the Sol Series is designed and manufactured in-house by DayStar employees to provide you with unparalleled quality and service! Check out the details below.
Optics Optimized for H-Alpha
The SOL130 combines DayStar’s signature Quark
technology with a 130mm refractor that is optimized for H-alpha solar
viewing and imaging. Each component is carefully selected to achieve precise
performance at a faster focal ratio. The objective lens is treated with
specialized coatings to block unwanted wavelengths and further enhance
H-alpha passthrough. Unlike the traditional DayStar Quark, the telecentric
(focal multiplier to be announced) Barlow and 18mm blocking filter are fully integrated with the
refractor, resulting in a compact dedicated solar telescope with an effective focal length and ratio of 1890mm and f/14.5 respectively. Daystar’s
telecentric optical system offers a full disk field of view visually and
with image sensors over 16.5mm. A 0.6x focal reducer is needed for 1.1″ sensors and 0.33x for 1/1.7″ or larger sensors.
Electronic PID Controlled Thermal Tuning
The SOL130 telescope is tuned using DayStar’s
electronic PID controlled thermal tuning method. This active approach heats
the etalon chamber to 100-150°F, effectively altering the material property
of the etalon and ensuring only a narrow (+/-0.5Å) range wavelength is
passed. Despite the complexity of the underlying technology, tuning the
etalon is incredibly straightforward, simply connect the included power
supply or other Micro USB solution capable of 5V 1.5A output, then wait for
the LED status indicator to turn green (about 5-10mins). To adjust the
center wavelength and capture specific features of the Sun, simply turn the
tuning knob, wait for the status LED to turn Green again, and you’ll be
ready to view the fantastic features of the solar surface!
All-New 12:1 Dual Speed Focuser
Focusing the SOL130 is as easy as ever. This
is thanks to DayStar’s all-new 12:1 dual speed focuser, manufactured and
designed by DayStar for unparalleled precision and ease of use! The rack and
pinion focus mechanism offers smooth, precise focusing and includes a
locking brake mechanism with stainless steel reduction components for
durability. The focuser is compatible with most third-party electronic focus
motors.
Plenty of Powerful Accessories
The SOL130 comes equipped with sturdy tube
rings, a dual-purpose carry handle with integrated solar finder that is
permanently aligned with the scope, and a vixen style dovetail that includes
a 1/4-20 threaded hole which allows for use with camera tripod. It also
comes with a Flat Cap for solar imaging, AC power supply, USB power cable,
1.25″ eyepiece adapter, a set of dust covers, and durable hard case! If
you’re looking to build on this impressive selection of accessories, you’ll
be glad to learn that this solar telescope is compatible with DayStar’s
entire ecosystem of Quark accessories, including their 2″ eyepiece adapters,
imaging tilt adapters, focal reducers, batteries and so much more!
