Sky-Watcher Evostar 72 mm APO Refractor
Portability that Packs a Punch: Sky-Watcher Evostar 72ED
The Sky-Watcher 72 mm Evostar APO Refractor is the perfect blend of extra-low dispersion glass and affordability. This doublet refractor provides sharp and contrasted views of lunar details and larger deep space objects. Meeting the expectations of the discerning amateur astronomer, the Evostar 72ED is an exceptional investment for visual astronomers and astrophotographers on the go!
This doublet refractor is constructed from an aluminum tube coated with a glossy, black diamond metal-flake finish, and the perfect portable companion! A doublet refractor has less glass compared to its triplet counterpart, resulting in reduced weight and greater budget-friendliness! Featuring an f/5.6 and 420 mm focal length, you can expect amazing views of larger deep-sky objects like the Orion Nebula and the Andromeda Galaxy. You can even catch some detailed views of the lunar surface! Please Note: The Evostar 72 doesn’t include a diagonal or eyepieces for visual use. We recommend the Apertura 2" Twist Lock Carbon Dielectric Mirror Diagonal, which accommodates both 2" and 1.25” eyepieces. If you opt for a 1.25" diagonal, don’t forget to add a 2" to 1.25” adapter for a proper fit.
Sharper Stars, Lighter Load!
The Sky-Watcher 72 mm Evostar APO Refractor is crafted with thoughtful features to enhance your experience. With air-spaced ED glass, a 2” dual-speed focuser, and a convenient carrying case, this telescope is perfect for a quick escape to darker skies. Read more below!
About the Optics
This 72 mm APO air-spaced doublet comes with the tried and true ED (
extra-low dispersion) glass. The Evostar refractor lens assembly utilizes a
proprietary combination of matched lenses, delivering tack-sharp stars with
charcoal-black, contrast-rich skies. All ED glass elements are
fluorite-based and featuring Sky-Watcher's proprietary Metallic
High-Transmission Coatings (MHTC), reducing false color, while the internal
baffle helps prevent stray light from obscuring your views. Air-spaced refractors further aid in the reduction of chromatic aberration,
making this well corrected for astrophotography and visual astronomy alike.
Excels in Both Visual Astronomy & Astrophotography
Thanks to the innovation of Sky-Watcher, you can utilize the 72 mm Evostar APO for
both astrophotography and visual astronomy! When configuring your telescope system for imaging, you will need to integrate a universal field flattener and focal reducer. One we recommend considering is the
Starizona Apex ED 0.65x Focal Reducer & Field Flattener. This accessory not only reduces the focal length for faster imaging, but also corrects field curvature, further correcting your images to get the best out of your Evostar 72. Compatibility with most astroimaging cameras and DSLRs is relatively straightforward. If you plan to attach a DSLR camera, ensure you purchase the correct T-ring adapter for your specific camera body.
The Crayford Advantage
This Evostar refractor is complete with a 2” dual-speed Crayford-style focuser. Unlike rack-and-pinion focusers, Crayford focusers use friction instead of gears. The friction-based movement minimizes vibration, which is important during astrophotography. This will achieve smoother and more precise focusing, even with heavier accessories attached. The dual-speed will significantly reduce any focusing hassle by allowing fine-tuning.
Focused on Accessories
Offering portability and convenience in one package, the Sky-Watcher Evostar 72 mm APO refractor
comes equipped with a foam-lined aluminum case, tube rings, and a V-style
dovetail plate! This allows you to easily slide your telescope onto any
V-style saddle directly out of the box.
