Apertura 2" Ultra High Contrast Filters - Set of Two
Apertura 2" Ultra High Contrast Filters - Set of Two
Light from street lamps, businesses, and homes illuminate our sky, making it very difficult to observe many of the fainter, yet interesting, deep sky objects. Adding the right filter to your binoculars can greatly enhance your viewing experience, which is where this filter set comes in! The Apertura UHC Filter set is designed to block out many forms of annoying light pollution from your surroundings, greatly improving contrast within your binoculars. Now, even if you live in an area with relatively heavy light pollution, you can enjoy views of many emission and planetary nebulae, as well as supernova remnants such as the famous Veil Nebula, that would have otherwise been tough or impossible to see!
UHC stands for “Ultra High Contrast”, and living up to its namesake, UHC filters are one the more aggressive types of light pollution suppression filters available on the market. While still classified as a broadband filter, these Apertura UHC Filters have narrower bandpasses than that of CLS or Moon and Skyglow filters, resulting in higher contrast views and a darker sky background. Artificial light from mercury vapor lamps and sodium vapor lights as well as Moon glow are all effectively blocked out, leaving only the light that you want to see! Due to the wavelengths of light allowed by the UHC filter, brighter stars surrounding the nebula may reveal a purple tint so keep that in mind when using this filter. Pair these with a bright pair of binoculars to pull out detail in large bright nebulae!
Emphasize Detail and Improve Contrast With This High Performance Filter
Let's Take a Deeper Look!
What sets one filter apart from another? Which filter is best for me? When developing a filter, manufacturers provide a chart that represents the wavelengths permitted through this filter. This gives insight into the filter’s performance, and what it can help you achieve. So, how exactly do I read a transmission chart? Our team has put together a comprehensive article, to help you understand the fundamentals on How to Read a Transmission Chart. Check out the article and feel more confident about choosing the right filter for your needs!
Ultra High Contrast - Elevate Your Visual Experience
With high quality design and specialized coatings, these filters cuts through the murk of light pollution, enhancing your views of numerous celestial objects. Read more about this Apertura UHC Filter set below!
Stunning Emission Nebulae Structure
Designed to cut out large portions of light, broadband targets such as galaxies and faint star clusters can become too dim to view while using a UHC filter, however, when used on targets such as emission nebulae, this is where these Apertura UHC filter really excel! Emission nebulae are celestial bodies that emit certain wavelengths of light, typically in the Ha, H-beta, and OIII band passes. This Apertura UHC Filter lets in all three band passes while simultaneously blocking out unwanted wavelengths. By focusing on just the light from these wavelengths, intricate details can be discerned that otherwise would have been difficult to see, if visible at all. While this filter is greatly beneficial under light polluted skies, using it under dark skies will give you even greater enhancement of the nebula's structure and fine detail. This means that views of large, bright nebulae are invigorated with more detail, structure, and definition. As this Apertura UHC filter cuts out wide bands of wavelengths, these inherent light blocking abilities means filter stacking is not recommended with this accessory.
Compatible With Almost Any System
These Apertura 2” UHC Filter are mounted within sturdy filter cells, designed to integrate into your binocular setup for high contrast views. These cells are designed to the 2" filter standard, for threading onto filter compatible binoculars & constellation binoculars or into 2" eyepieces in big interchangeable eyepiece setups. These filters have been optimized for exit pupils of 2mm or larger when viewing deep sky targets.
Built With Quality in Mind
Known for their high caliber craftsmanship, this Apertura UHC filter is no exception. Its Surface Quality of 60/40, Surface Flatness of λ/4, and Schott B270 glass uphold viewing quality by maximizing sharpness and clarity. Also, high precision coatings through Ion Assisted Deposition (IAD) technology further enhance performance by reducing light scatter and improving environmental resistance and physical durability. Off-band blocking is also at play, a technique that assists in blocking light transmission of the unwanted wavelengths for even better light pollution suppression!
