Simple Installation
Upgrading your 50P scope with the Askar Auto Focus Kit for 50P Astrograph Refractors can be done in three main steps:
- Step 1 - Remove one of the side finder bases, and replace it with the included bracket and M4x10 screws. Place your electronic focuser over the bracket, with the output shaft pointing toward the front of the telescope, and assess which orientation the L-Plates will need to be attached to line up with the electronic focuser's mounting holes. Attach, but do not fully tighten the L-Plates with the included M4x12 screws.
- Step 2 - Install the correct pulley for your electronic focus motor's shaft (4 mm and 5 mm ID pulleys included). Assess whether your electronic focuser mounts with either the included M3x10 or M4x10 screws. Place the electronic focuser back over the bracket, and thread the two M3x10 or M4x10 screws through the L-Plate and into the electronic focuser. Fully tighten the screws attaching the L-Plates to the bracket.
- Step 3 - Loop the smallest belt that will comfortably fit over the motor pulley and helical focus ring. Askar has provided a list of belts for popular electronic focuser models; please the features below for more info. Ensure that the belt is looped over the tensioning wheel on the bracket such that it is closer to the helical focuser, riding on the inside of the wheel. Once you have the belt in place, pull the electronic focuser away from the bracket so that it is putting firm pressure on the belt, and finish tightening down the electronic focuser mounting screws. To fine tune the belt tension, you can now access the bolt opposite the tension wheel to adjust it's position.
